Frame your credentials around regulatory sales
SGS Medical Devices clients need help navigating FDA clearance, ISO 13485, and CE marking. Documenting your experience selling into regulated industries positions you as a candidate who reduces ramp-up time, which strengthens the business necessity argument for sponsorship.
Target SGS's testing and certification divisions specifically
SGS runs distinct business lines for product testing, inspection, and certification. Sales Business Development roles in the Medical Devices division focus on lab services and regulatory consulting, so apply through those vertical-specific postings rather than generalist sales listings.
Confirm OPT eligibility before your first interview
SGS sponsors F-1 OPT, which gives you a bridge while a longer-term petition moves forward. If you're in STEM OPT, your 24-month extension window gives both sides more time to assess fit before committing to an H-1B filing cycle.
Understand how TN status fits this role
Canadian and Mexican nationals with a business or engineering degree may qualify for TN status as a management consultant or engineer, depending on how SGS structures the role. TN requires no USCIS petition and no annual cap, so the timeline from offer to start date is significantly shorter than H-1B.
Ask about Green Card timelines during the offer stage
SGS sponsors both EB-2 and EB-3, which involve PERM labor certification filed with the DOL. Raise this in final-stage negotiations, not after signing. Understanding whether the role is structured to support PERM affects how long you'll need to stay in the position.
Use Migrate Mate to find active SGS openings
SGS posts Sales Business Development roles across multiple locations and divisions, and availability shifts frequently. Use Migrate Mate to filter for SGS Medical Devices positions that explicitly support visa sponsorship, so you're applying to roles with confirmed pathways rather than guessing from a generic job listing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does SGS sponsor H-1B visas for Sales Business Developments?
Yes, SGS has a track record of sponsoring H-1B visas for Sales Business Development roles in its Medical Devices division. Because the H-1B requires a specialty occupation, the role typically needs to be framed around a specific degree field, such as biomedical engineering, life sciences, or business. Your offer letter and the Labor Condition Application filed with DOL must both reflect that framing.
How do I apply for Sales Business Development jobs at SGS?
Apply directly through SGS's careers portal and filter by the Medical Devices or Life Sciences business line, since that's where the majority of Sales Business Development openings sit. Tailor your application to show regulatory sales experience relevant to device manufacturers. You can also browse current SGS openings filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles where sponsorship has been confirmed.
Which visa types does SGS commonly use for Sales Business Development roles?
SGS sponsors H-1B, TN visa, F-1 OPT, and Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3. For Sales Business Development roles, H-1B is the most common nonimmigrant path for candidates with a relevant bachelor's degree or higher. TN visa is a practical option for Canadian and Mexican nationals. F-1 OPT provides a near-term bridge while a longer-term petition is evaluated.
What qualifications does SGS expect for Sales Business Development roles in Medical Devices?
SGS typically looks for candidates with a background in life sciences, biomedical engineering, or a related technical field, combined with experience selling services or solutions to medical device manufacturers. Familiarity with FDA regulatory pathways, ISO 13485, or CE marking processes is a meaningful differentiator. A degree in a relevant specialty field also supports the specialty occupation determination required for H-1B sponsorship.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for an SGS Sales Business Development offer?
Timeline depends on the visa type. TN status for Canadian nationals can be obtained at the border within days of an offer. H-1B follows an annual cap with a lottery in March and an October 1 start date, meaning there can be a gap of six months or more between offer and start. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3 involves DOL labor certification and USCIS processing, which can take one to three years or longer depending on your country of birth.
