Align your background with scientific verticals
Thermo Fisher's sales roles are segmented by vertical, including biopharma, academic research, and diagnostics. Tailor your resume to reflect domain-specific experience so hiring managers can place you in a revenue-generating territory from day one.
Confirm your OPT start date before applying
If you're on F-1 OPT, factor in Thermo Fisher's onboarding timelines. Sales roles often have a defined ramp period, and starting with fewer than six months of OPT remaining can complicate the H-1B cap-gap bridge your employer needs to manage.
Search sponsored Sales Business Development roles on Migrate Mate
Filter by Thermo Fisher Scientific on Migrate Mate to surface open Sales Business Development positions that include visa sponsorship. This narrows your search to roles where the company has already indicated sponsorship willingness for your function.
Request LCA details before accepting an offer
Before signing, ask HR which prevailing wage level your role will be filed under with DOL. Sales Business Development titles at Thermo Fisher can span Level I through Level III depending on territory scope, and that classification affects your long-term petition strategy.
Register for the H-1B lottery in your final OPT year
USCIS opens H-1B registration each March. If you're targeting a full-time offer from Thermo Fisher, time your job search so an offer is in place before registration closes, giving their immigration team enough lead time to submit your petition.
Prepare a credential evaluation for non-U.S. science degrees
Thermo Fisher's specialty occupation filings for sales roles typically require a life sciences or business degree. If your degree is from outside the U.S., obtain a NACES-member evaluation before your interview to pre-empt any USCIS request for evidence.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsor H-1B visas for Sales Business Developments?
Yes, Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsors H-1B visas for Sales Business Development roles. The company has a centralized immigration function that works with external counsel to file petitions for qualifying candidates. Sponsorship is most consistent for roles requiring a life sciences or technical business degree, which supports the specialty occupation classification USCIS requires.
How do I apply for Sales Business Development jobs at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
Apply directly through Thermo Fisher's careers portal or find open positions filtered by sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate. When applying, target roles by business unit, such as Laboratory Products or Biosciences, since hiring teams operate independently. Include any relevant scientific domain experience in your application, as territory alignment is a key selection factor.
Which visa types does Thermo Fisher Scientific commonly use for Sales Business Development roles?
Thermo Fisher supports H-1B, TN visa, and F-1 OPT and CPT for Sales Business Development candidates, with H-1B being the most common path to long-term employment. The company also sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card petitions for employees who demonstrate sustained performance, though sponsorship timelines depend on your country of birth and PERM labor certification progress.
What qualifications does Thermo Fisher Scientific expect for Sales Business Development positions?
Most Sales Business Development roles at Thermo Fisher require a bachelor's degree in a life science, chemistry, or business field, with preference for candidates who have direct experience selling into biopharma or academic research accounts. For H-1B sponsorship purposes, your degree must be in a field directly related to the specialty occupation, so a generalist business degree alone may require supplemental documentation.
How do I time my job search to account for visa processing at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
If you need H-1B sponsorship, target an offer by February so Thermo Fisher's immigration team can file during the March USCIS registration window. For TN visa holders, transfers are faster since TN status doesn't require a lottery, but you'll still need an updated LCA certified by DOL before your start date. Build at least eight to twelve weeks of lead time into any accepted offer.
