Job Description
Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Immunodiagnostics Division (IDD) is dedicated to improving the management of allergy, asthma, and autoimmune diseases through advanced diagnostic technologies and deep clinical expertise. With a broad global footprint and unmatched commercial scale, our teams help healthcare partners solve some of the world’s toughest challenges while improving patient outcomes.
Position Summary
The Business Development Executive (BDE) is responsible for driving growth within Health System, Hospital, Regional Reference Lab, and National Account segments by advancing the adoption, implementation, and consistent utilization of IDD diagnostic testing solution. This role owns the transition from customer onboarding through revenue realization and develops strategies that optimize lab utilization, expand testing menus, and increase pull-through in high-opportunity markets.
The BDE will persuasively articulate the clinical and economic value of expanded testing to senior executive stakeholders and serve as the primary orchestrator of internal commercial resources to accelerate growth, driving adoption of full diagnostic menus and evidence-based allergy and autoimmune panels.
Territory Coverage: This role supports Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia and requires travel throughout the assigned territory.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Account Growth & Market Development
- Lead the advancement of IDD test adoption within hospitals and large healthcare organizations from implementation through revenue generation.
- Identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities across allergy, autoimmune, and adjacent diagnostic markets, including urgent care and retail health centers.
- Develop and execute strategic and tactical plans to increase testing volume, optimize menu utilization, and support health system expansion initiatives.
- Evaluate customer needs, provide actionable business insights, and cultivate long-term customer advocacy that drives sustained growth.
Executive-Level Engagement & Value Communication
- Persuasively communicate the clinical utility and economic value proposition of IDD testing to C-suite executives, business leaders, and clinical decision makers.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of healthcare delivery systems, reimbursement dynamics, laboratory operations, and payer/provider economics.
- Develop and present compelling business cases to support expanded testing adoption within IDNs, GPOs, ACOs, and regional health systems.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Resource Alignment
- Serve as the key liaison between customers and the internal commercial organization, ensuring appropriate resource deployment and seamless execution.
- Partner closely with Strategic Account Managers (SAMs), Strategic Account Executives (SAEs), Regional Managers, Clinical Sales Specialists (CSS), and Demand Generation leadership (DM) to activate coordinated growth initiatives.
- Collaborate with marketing, sales operations, and product teams to support aligned messaging and targeted campaigns.
- Participate in ongoing training, field intelligence sharing, and performance reviews related to account strategy.
Sales Execution & Performance Management
- Meet or exceed assigned sales and growth targets through disciplined pipeline management and strategic selling practices.
- Independently develop and execute strategies while effectively leading cross-functional teams without formal authority.
- Maintain accurate account planning, forecasting, and reporting aligned to commercial objectives.
- Promote strong customer relationships through proactive communication, problem-solving, and customer-first engagement.
Education & Experience Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Healthcare, or a related field.
Experience
- 8+ years of successful sales or business development experience in healthcare, diagnostics, laboratory services, or pharmaceuticals.
- Proven success exceeding sales targets while navigating complex selling environments.
- Demonstrated experience developing strategies that drive measurable growth in healthcare systems or diagnostic markets.

- Deep understanding of healthcare delivery systems, reimbursement models, provider/payer economics, laboratory and hospital/IDN dynamics.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, able to influence at all organizational levels, including C-suite, both virtually and in-person.
- Creative, solutions-oriented approach with the ability to operate independently while collaborating effectively across a matrix organization.
- Strong organizational skills, project management capabilities, and attention to detail.

Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
H-1B eligibility requires your degree to directly relate to the Sales Account Executive role. A background in life sciences, chemistry, or biomedical engineering strengthens your petition because it ties technical product knowledge to the position's specialty occupation classification.
Target territory-based openings in research-dense markets
Thermo Fisher structures its sales territories around university systems, hospital networks, and biotech clusters. Roles tied to those regions move faster through internal approvals, so filtering your search by location before applying gives you a realistic read on hiring urgency.
Confirm sponsorship willingness before your final interview round
Thermo Fisher's HR and talent acquisition teams handle sponsorship decisions centrally, not at the hiring manager level. Ask the recruiter directly during the screening call whether the specific role is approved for sponsorship before investing in later rounds.
Use Migrate Mate to surface sponsored Sales Account Executive openings
Search Migrate Mate specifically for Sales Account Executive roles at Thermo Fisher Scientific. The platform filters for visa-sponsoring employers, so you avoid spending time on listings where sponsorship is not on the table for international candidates.
Understand PERM timing if you're targeting a Green Card
For EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship, Thermo Fisher typically initiates PERM labor certification after you've established performance in the role. DOL's PERM process can take 12 to 18 months before the I-140 petition stage, so plan your H-1B renewal windows around that timeline.
Prepare your OPT or CPT documentation before your offer closes
If you're on F-1 status, have your OPT authorization card and updated I-20 ready when the offer comes. Thermo Fisher uses E-Verify for all new hires, so delays in documentation can push your start date or complicate onboarding if your work authorization window is tight.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsor H-1B visas for Sales Account Executives?
Yes, Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsors H-1B visas for Sales Account Executive roles where the position qualifies as a specialty occupation. Roles requiring a technical or scientific degree, such as life sciences, chemistry, or biomedical engineering, tend to meet the H-1B specialty occupation standard most cleanly. Sponsorship decisions are handled centrally by HR, so confirm eligibility with the recruiter early in the process.
How do I apply for Sales Account Executive jobs at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
Applications go through Thermo Fisher Scientific's careers portal on their official website. You can also browse and apply to open Sales Account Executive roles that include visa sponsorship through Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for international-candidate-friendly listings. Tailoring your application to highlight technical product knowledge relevant to the life sciences or diagnostics markets will strengthen your candidacy for this function.
Which visa types does Thermo Fisher Scientific commonly use for Sales Account Executive roles?
Thermo Fisher sponsors H-1B visas most commonly for this role category. F-1 OPT and CPT are also supported for students and recent graduates in eligible degree programs. For candidates pursuing permanent residence, Thermo Fisher has a track record of sponsoring EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways, typically initiated after a candidate has been in the role for a period of time. TN visas are available for qualifying Canadian and Mexican nationals.
What qualifications does Thermo Fisher Scientific expect for Sales Account Executive roles?
Most Sales Account Executive openings at Thermo Fisher require a bachelor's degree in a life sciences, chemistry, or related technical field. Prior experience selling into laboratories, research institutions, or hospital systems is a strong differentiator. Because H-1B eligibility depends partly on the degree-to-role match, a science-based academic background also supports the sponsorship petition, not just the hiring decision.
How do I navigate the visa sponsorship timeline after receiving an offer from Thermo Fisher Scientific?
If you're on F-1 OPT, Thermo Fisher's E-Verify requirement means your employment authorization must be active before your start date. For H-1B sponsorship, USCIS cap-subject petitions are filed in April for an October 1 start, so an offer in Q1 aligns well with that window. Premium processing is available to reduce USCIS adjudication to roughly 15 business days, which matters if your current status has a tight expiration.
