Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
H-1B eligibility for a Business Development Manager role requires your degree to match the position's field. A background in life sciences, biomedical engineering, or chemistry strengthens your case significantly over a general business degree when applying at Thermo Fisher.
Target divisions with recurring commercial hiring
Thermo Fisher's Biosciences, Genetic Sciences, and Clinical Research divisions post Business Development Manager roles more frequently than others. Focusing your applications on these units improves your odds of landing a role where sponsorship is already part of the hiring workflow.
Confirm sponsorship intent before advancing in interviews
Ask the recruiter directly whether the specific Business Development Manager opening has budget and approval for visa sponsorship. Thermo Fisher's individual hiring managers control this, so confirming early saves you from investing weeks in a process that won't support your immigration needs.
Track open Business Development Manager roles on Migrate Mate
Filter for Business Development Manager roles at Thermo Fisher Scientific by visa type on Migrate Mate so you're only applying to positions where sponsorship is confirmed. This cuts out the guesswork that wastes time during an active job search.
Understand the LCA filing requirement before your offer stage
Before Thermo Fisher can file your H-1B petition with USCIS, they must submit a Labor Condition Application to the DOL certifying your offered wage meets the prevailing rate. Knowing this step exists helps you set realistic expectations on timing between offer and start date.
Use OPT strategically to build your internal sponsorship case
If you're on F-1 OPT, starting at Thermo Fisher in a Business Development or sales support role lets you demonstrate commercial impact before your employer files for H-1B. Internal transfers and promotions often face less friction in the sponsorship approval process than external hires.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsor H-1B visas for Business Development Managers?
Yes, Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsors H-1B visas for Business Development Manager roles, particularly where the position requires a degree in a scientific or technical field. Sponsorship decisions are made at the business unit level, so availability can vary by division. Roles in Biosciences, Genetic Sciences, and Clinical Research tend to have stronger sponsorship precedent for this function.
Which visa types are commonly used for Business Development Manager roles at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
The H-1B is the most common work visa for Business Development Managers at Thermo Fisher, especially for candidates with life sciences or technical degrees. The company also supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students and recent graduates, TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying categories, and EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card sponsorship for longer-tenured employees.
What qualifications or experience are expected for a Business Development Manager at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
Thermo Fisher typically looks for candidates with a bachelor's degree or higher in life sciences, chemistry, or a related technical field, combined with experience in scientific sales, account management, or commercial strategy. Familiarity with laboratory workflows, reagents, or diagnostic platforms strengthens your application. An MBA with an underlying science degree is common at the senior level.
How do I apply for Business Development Manager jobs at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
You can browse and apply for Business Development Manager openings at Thermo Fisher directly through their careers site. To filter specifically for roles where visa sponsorship is available, use Migrate Mate, which surfaces Thermo Fisher positions by visa type so you're not applying blindly. Tailor your resume to highlight technical domain knowledge alongside your commercial experience.
How do I know if Thermo Fisher will sponsor my visa before I accept an offer?
Ask the recruiter explicitly during the early interview stages whether the role has been approved for visa sponsorship. Once you're at the offer stage, confirm whether Thermo Fisher will file an H-1B petition and whether they intend to pursue Green Card sponsorship over time. Get this in writing before resigning from a current position or letting OPT expire.
