Frame credentials around regulatory commercial overlap
SGS business development roles in medical devices require you to sell testing, inspection, and certification services. Highlight any experience bridging FDA regulatory knowledge with client-facing sales or account growth to stand out in the applicant pool.
Target SGS openings tied to TIC growth markets
SGS expands business development hiring when it wins new testing or notified body contracts in medical devices. Watch for postings aligned to IVD, combination products, or EU MDR compliance service lines, where demand for bilingual or internationally credentialed candidates is highest.
Confirm OPT authorization before your first interview
If you're on F-1 OPT, verify your EAD is active and your SEVIS record reflects current employment authorization before SGS extends any conditional offer. A gap between your graduation date and EAD start date can complicate your start timeline significantly.
Ask about LCA filing timelines during offer negotiation
SGS must file a Labor Condition Application with DOL before submitting your H-1B petition. Clarify with your recruiter whether the LCA is already certified or pending, since DOL typically takes seven business days, and delays affect your start date.
Align your TN eligibility to your actual job duties
Canadian and Mexican nationals in business development at SGS may qualify under TN if the role maps cleanly to a USMCA-listed profession such as Management Consultant or Scientific Technician. Mismatches between your job title and actual duties are a common denial trigger at the port of entry.
Use Migrate Mate to filter SGS business development roles by visa type
Finding the right open positions at SGS that match your visa situation is faster when you filter by sponsorship type from the start. Migrate Mate lets you search SGS business development jobs by the specific visa categories they support, saving time on roles that won't work for your status.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does SGS sponsor H-1B visas for Business Developments?
Yes, SGS sponsors H-1B visas for Business Development roles in its medical devices division. The process requires SGS to first file a certified Labor Condition Application with DOL, then submit Form I-129 to USCIS. If you're subject to the H-1B cap, your petition must be selected in the annual lottery before USCIS reviews it.
How do I apply for Business Development jobs at SGS?
You can browse open Business Development positions at SGS directly on the SGS careers portal, filtering by business line or region. For a faster way to identify roles that align with your visa type, Migrate Mate aggregates SGS business development openings and lets you filter by sponsorship category before you apply.
Which visa types does SGS commonly use for Business Development roles?
SGS sponsors Business Development hires in medical devices through H-1B, EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways, F-1 OPT, and TN visas for eligible Canadian and Mexican nationals. The right visa depends on your nationality, degree field, and the specific duties in the role. TN and OPT typically move fastest since neither requires a lottery or PERM labor certification.
What qualifications does SGS expect for Business Development roles in medical devices?
SGS typically looks for candidates with a background in life sciences, biomedical engineering, regulatory affairs, or a related technical field paired with demonstrated sales or account management experience. Familiarity with FDA quality system regulations, ISO 13485, or EU MDR compliance strengthens your candidacy, since the role involves selling SGS testing and certification services to device manufacturers.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Business Development hire at SGS?
Timeline depends on visa type. F-1 OPT can start quickly once your EAD is active. TN approval at a port of entry is often same-day for Canadians. H-1B sponsorship for cap-subject candidates requires lottery selection in March and an October 1 start date at the earliest, or earlier for cap-exempt situations. EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through PERM typically takes two or more years from filing to approval.
