Align your credentials to BD roles
Genentech's Business Development roles typically require a life sciences or MBA background. If your degree is in a related field like biochemistry or bioengineering, document how your coursework supports a specialty occupation claim before applications start.
Target roles with clear deal exposure
Genentech structures BD around licensing, M&A, and alliance management. Job listings that mention term sheets, due diligence, or partnership negotiations are the ones most likely to advance quickly and carry formal sponsorship through HR.
Search verified BD openings on Migrate Mate
Filter Business Development roles at Genentech by visa type on Migrate Mate so you're only reviewing positions confirmed to sponsor your specific status, whether that's F-1 OPT, H-1B, or TN.
Understand how TN applies to BD work
TN visa eligibility for Business Development depends on fitting a qualifying USMCA occupation, typically economist, financial analyst, or management consultant. Confirm your specific job duties map to one of those categories before relying on TN as your pathway.
Request H-1B cap exemption details upfront
Genentech is affiliated with academic and nonprofit research through partnerships, but the employing entity matters for cap-exempt status. Ask HR directly which legal entity will file your H-1B petition before assuming you fall outside the annual cap lottery.

Find Business Development at Genentech JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Genentech sponsor H-1B visas for Business Developments?
Yes, Genentech sponsors H-1B visas for Business Development roles. The company files petitions through the standard USCIS cap subject process, which includes the annual lottery for most candidates. If you're already in H-1B status with another employer, Genentech can file a transfer petition at any point in the year without waiting for the next lottery cycle.
How do I apply for Business Development jobs at Genentech?
Applications go through Genentech's careers portal. For international candidates, the most efficient approach is to filter open BD positions by sponsorship type before applying so you're targeting roles where your visa category is already supported. Migrate Mate aggregates Genentech's Business Development openings with sponsorship filters, which cuts down on research time significantly.
Which visa types does Genentech commonly use for Business Development hires?
Genentech sponsors H-1B, TN, and F-1 OPT and CPT for Business Development roles, and pursues EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways for longer-term employees. H-1B is the most common route for candidates without an existing work authorization. TN is an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals whose BD job duties align with a qualifying USMCA occupation category.
What qualifications does Genentech expect for Business Development roles?
Most Genentech BD positions require a background in life sciences, pharmacy, or a related technical discipline, often combined with an MBA or equivalent deal-making experience. Roles focused on licensing or M&A typically expect direct exposure to term sheet negotiation or due diligence in a biotech or pharmaceutical setting. Industry experience carries more weight than functional breadth alone.
How long does the sponsorship process take for a Genentech BD offer?
Timeline depends on your current status. F-1 OPT authorization is immediate if your EAD is valid. H-1B transfers from another employer take four to six months under standard USCIS processing, or two to three weeks with premium processing. If you need a new H-1B cap slot, you're looking at a full lottery cycle with an October 1 start date at the earliest.
