Align Your Credentials to SGS Testing Workflows
SGS Research Associate roles in medical devices typically require hands-on lab skills in areas like biocompatibility, sterility testing, or materials analysis. Frame your resume around specific test methods and instrumentation rather than broad scientific coursework.
Target SGS Labs Near Regulatory Hubs
SGS operates testing facilities close to major medical device manufacturing regions. Applying to sites in states with dense device industry activity increases your odds of finding a team already familiar with sponsoring international hires for bench-level roles.
Start OPT Applications Before Your Program Ends
USCIS recommends filing your OPT EAD application up to 90 days before your program end date. If you're targeting an entry-level Research Associate role at SGS, having your EAD in hand before you interview removes a major barrier for hiring managers.
Ask Recruiters About H-1B Petition Timing Upfront
The H-1B cap lottery runs once a year with a March registration window. If SGS extends you an offer in late spring or summer, clarify whether they'll file a cap-subject petition the following April or pursue a cap-exempt route through a qualifying institution arrangement.
Browse SGS Research Associate Openings on Migrate Mate
Filter open Research Associate postings at SGS by visa type on Migrate Mate so you can confirm which specific roles and lab sites are actively sponsoring before you invest time tailoring your application.
Understand How PERM Affects Your Green Card Timeline
SGS sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 green cards for Research Associates, but PERM labor certification requires demonstrating no qualified U.S. workers were available. Factor in a multi-year process when evaluating whether an SGS offer aligns with your long-term immigration plan.

Find Research Associate at SGS JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does SGS sponsor H-1B visas for Research Associates?
Yes, SGS sponsors H-1B visas for Research Associate roles in its medical device testing and laboratory operations. Research Associate positions at SGS typically qualify as specialty occupations because they require at least a bachelor's degree in a life sciences or engineering field. Your offer letter will need to accompany an I-129 petition filed by SGS before the relevant USCIS deadline.
How do I apply for Research Associate jobs at SGS?
Apply directly through the SGS careers portal or browse verified openings filtered by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate. When applying, tailor your resume to the specific testing discipline listed in the job description, such as microbiology, chemistry, or materials testing. Including relevant certifications or familiarity with ISO or FDA regulatory standards strengthens your application for medical device-focused roles.
Which visa types does SGS commonly sponsor for Research Associate roles?
SGS sponsors H-1B visas for Research Associates who need cap-subject work authorization, and supports F-1 OPT and STEM OPT extensions for recent graduates already in the country. TN visas are available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying scientific roles. For longer-term pathways, SGS also files EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant petitions for eligible Research Associates pursuing a Green Card.
What qualifications does SGS expect for Research Associate roles in medical devices?
Most SGS Research Associate postings in medical devices require a bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or a closely related field. Hands-on laboratory experience with standardized test methods, such as USP, ASTM, or ISO protocols, is frequently listed as a requirement rather than a preference. Familiarity with Good Laboratory Practices and documentation standards for regulated industries meaningfully strengthens your candidacy.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take when joining SGS as a Research Associate?
Timeline depends heavily on which visa category applies to you. F-1 OPT authorization from USCIS can take up to three months from the application date, so plan accordingly. H-1B cap petitions filed in April have an October 1 start date, creating a gap you may bridge with OPT. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3 typically spans several years from initial filing to approval.
