Align your credentials to FDA regulatory frameworks
SGS Engineering roles in medical devices often require familiarity with FDA 21 CFR Part 820 or ISO 13485. Documenting hands-on experience with these standards in your resume positions you as ready to contribute without a long ramp-up.
Target SGS roles tied to testing labs
SGS runs accredited testing and certification labs for medical device clients. Engineering openings in these facilities tend to involve specialized instrumentation and compliance work, which strengthens your case for H-1B specialty occupation classification with USCIS.
Confirm sponsorship willingness before your final interview
SGS Engineering hiring managers vary by business unit. Ask directly whether the specific team and role are approved to support visa sponsorship before you reach the offer stage, not after, to avoid late-stage complications.
Understand the LCA filing timeline before accepting
Your employer files a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before submitting your H-1B petition. For SGS roles, this step typically precedes any start date, so factor at least several weeks of pre-filing preparation into your transition plan.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open SGS Engineering roles by visa type
Not every SGS Engineering posting is tied to a sponsoring business unit. Use Migrate Mate to filter listings specifically flagged for visa sponsorship so you apply to roles where the pathway already exists.
Prepare a degree equivalency letter if your engineering qualification is from outside the U.S.
USCIS requires evidence that your degree meets U.S. bachelor's-level standards for H-1B specialty occupation purposes. A credential evaluation from a NACES-member organization resolves this before SGS's immigration counsel raises it.

Find Engineering at SGS JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does SGS sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, SGS sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying Engineering roles, particularly in its medical device testing and certification divisions where specialized technical knowledge is required. Sponsorship is tied to specific business units and roles, so confirming with the hiring team early in the process is the practical way to avoid surprises closer to an offer.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at SGS?
You can search SGS Engineering openings directly on the SGS careers portal or use Migrate Mate to filter for SGS roles that are flagged for visa sponsorship. When applying, tailor your resume to highlight relevant certifications and experience with medical device standards such as ISO 13485 or FDA quality system regulations, which align closely with what SGS Engineering teams look for.
Which visa types does SGS commonly use for Engineering roles?
SGS has sponsored H-1B visas for Engineering positions and supports Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for longer-term employees. F-1 OPT holders in Engineering fields are also considered, particularly for roles in testing labs. TN visas may be an option for Canadian or Mexican nationals in qualifying Engineering occupations under USMCA.
What qualifications does SGS expect for Engineering roles in medical devices?
Most SGS Engineering roles in medical devices require a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline such as mechanical, electrical, or biomedical engineering. Practical experience with regulatory frameworks including FDA 21 CFR Part 820, ISO 13485, or IEC 60601 is frequently required. Roles in accredited testing labs often expect hands-on instrumentation or compliance verification experience beyond academic training.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for an SGS Engineering role?
For H-1B sponsorship, the process involves DOL Labor Condition Application filing followed by a USCIS petition, which can take several months under standard processing. If you're on F-1 OPT, your employer must act before your authorization expires. For cap-subject H-1B filings, USCIS registration opens in March each year, so coordinating your SGS offer timeline around that window matters significantly.
