Align your credentials to SGS lab requirements
SGS's medical device testing roles typically require documented proficiency in specific analytical methods, such as biocompatibility or sterility testing. Pull your transcripts, certifications, and any ISO 17025 lab experience before applying so you can speak to these directly.
Target SGS postings that list LCA wage data
SGS files a Labor Condition Application with DOL before any H-1B petition. Searching DOL's OFLC disclosure database for SGS Research Technician filings shows prevailing wage levels and lab locations, helping you identify which sites actively sponsor this role.
Clarify OPT and TN eligibility early in interviews
If you're on F-1 OPT or hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship, SGS can bring you on faster without waiting for H-1B cap season. Raise your work authorization type during the screening call so recruiters can route your application through the right HR process.
Prepare for SGS's compliance-heavy onboarding timeline
Medical device testing labs operate under FDA and ISO audit cycles, which means SGS hiring timelines can extend beyond a standard offer-to-start window. If you're mid-OPT, confirm your end date against a realistic start date, factoring in background checks and lab credentialing.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Research Technician roles by sponsorship type
Not every SGS Research Technician posting explicitly flags visa sponsorship availability. Use Migrate Mate to filter open roles by the visa types SGS has sponsored for this function, so you're only spending time on positions that match your authorization situation.
Request confirmation of PERM commitment before signing
If your goal is permanent residence, ask directly whether the Research Technician position is structured for PERM sponsorship under EB-2 or EB-3. SGS operates multiple lab sites with different HR policies, and sponsorship paths are not uniform across locations.

Find Research Technician at SGS JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does SGS sponsor H-1B visas for Research Technicians?
Yes, SGS has a documented track record of H-1B sponsorship for Research Technician roles, particularly within its medical device testing labs. Sponsorship availability can vary by site and the specific lab function involved. Confirming sponsorship eligibility with the recruiter early in the process is the most reliable way to avoid surprises after an offer is made.
Which visa types does SGS commonly use for Research Technician roles?
SGS sponsors H-1B visas for Research Technicians requiring cap-subject petitions, and also supports F-1 OPT and STEM OPT extensions for recent graduates. TN status is available to qualifying Canadian and Mexican citizens in eligible scientific or technical categories. For longer-term permanent residence, USCIS-defined EB-2 or EB-3 PERM sponsorship has been used for laboratory science roles, though availability depends on the specific position and location.
How do I apply for Research Technician jobs at SGS?
You can search and apply through Migrate Mate, which aggregates SGS Research Technician openings and filters them by visa sponsorship type so you can focus on roles that match your work authorization. When applying, tailor your materials to the specific testing discipline listed, whether that's chemical, biological, or mechanical, since SGS's medical device labs are specialized and generic applications are less competitive.
What qualifications does SGS expect for Research Technician candidates seeking sponsorship?
SGS typically expects a bachelor's degree in a life science, chemistry, or engineering discipline for Research Technician roles in its medical device segment. Hands-on experience with regulated lab environments, familiarity with ISO 17025 or GLP standards, and proficiency with specific analytical instruments strengthen a candidate's profile considerably. For H-1B eligibility, the role must qualify as a specialty occupation, which means the degree requirement needs to be specific to the field of the position.
How do I manage timing if I'm on OPT and targeting an SGS Research Technician role?
If you're on F-1 OPT, align your application timeline with the H-1B cap season, which opens for registration in March for an October 1 start. STEM OPT extensions of up to 24 months can bridge the gap if your employer is registered with E-Verify, which SGS is. Plan your OPT end date against an October start, and confirm with your recruiter that the offer letter explicitly supports H-1B cap sponsorship.
