INTRODUCTION
The Program Management Office (PMO) at Zoox is responsible for driving cross-functional program planning and execution at the highest level. We partner with leaders from across the company in vehicle development, system design, software engineering, manufacturing, fleet operations, and business functions to develop and deliver major corporate milestones on the path to launch, and beyond. Our program managers contribute to the end to end success of technical, integrated product milestones involving both of our vehicle platforms - the Toyota Highlander test fleet and Zoox’s purpose-built robotaxi.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In this role, you will:
-
Own the fleet validation operational strategy: Lead the end-to-end strategy and execution of mileage accumulation for both the physical test fleet and simulation assets, to enable Zoox’s geofence expansion across all cities. Partner closely with upstream teams (e.g. Autonomy, Systems Design & Mission Assurance, Places & Build) and downstream teams (e.g. Data Science, Fleet Operations) to ensure critical inputs are available, and results are delivered; you will ultimately "own the outcome" of test fleet data collection. This is a high leverage, high impact role.
-
Usher in a simulation-first methodology: Act as the cross-functional catalyst for scaling simulated mileage accumulation. Drive alignment between Autonomy, System Design & Mission Assurance, and Simulation teams to ensure clear requirements are set, and simulation platforms are resourced to meet exponentially growing data needs.
-
Identify and resolve critical bottlenecks: Develop rigorous tracking mechanisms that model the impact of upstream dependencies (e.g., map content deliverables and safety requirements). You’ll think critically and work cross-functionally to squash inefficiencies in upstream and downstream pipelines and systems. Partner collaboratively with program leads and executive leadership across orgs to reshape deliverables, timelines, and program scope where necessary to ensure overall program success.
-
Relentlessly investigate and creatively resolve blockers: Treat flatlining progress metrics as immediate triggers for action. Dig deep into root causes, negotiate thoughtfully with stakeholders on complex requests, and design out-of-the-box technical workarounds when ideal solutions are unavailable. Always present concrete mitigation plans, rather than accepting the status quo.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Robotics, or a related technical field.
- 7+ years of TPM experience, with a strong background in complex hardware/software integration, system verification and validation (V&V), or safety-critical systems.
- A naturally inquisitive, highly technical mindset. You do not accept the status quo and have the discipline to negotiate aggressively with stakeholders to protect the program's critical path.
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical bottlenecks into clear, data-backed executive narratives that enable timely, critical business decisions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Deep experience with autonomous vehicle and/or simulation platforms, virtual validation strategies, or synthetic data generation.
- Familiarity with optimization frameworks and large-scale data acquisition programs.
COMPENSATION
- Base Salary Range: There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. The listed range applies only to the base salary. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
Zoox also offers a comprehensive package of benefits, including paid time off (e.g. sick leave, vacation, bereavement), unpaid time off, Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights, Amazon RSUs, health insurance, long-term care insurance, long-term and short-term disability insurance, and life insurance.

Tips for Finding Mechanical Project Engineer Jobs at Zoox
Align your portfolio to AV hardware milestones
Zoox evaluates mechanical engineers on experience with full vehicle development cycles, not just component design. Document your work on DFM, tolerance analysis, or system integration at each prototype stage before you apply.
Verify your visa category before interviewing
Zoox sponsors multiple visa types including H-1B, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT. Knowing which category fits your nationality and status before your first recruiter call prevents delays once an offer is extended.
Time OPT applications around Zoox hiring cycles
Zoox recruits mechanical engineers in rolling waves tied to vehicle program timelines. If you're on F-1 OPT, file your EAD application with USCIS at least 90 days before your program end date so authorization is in hand when an offer arrives.
Highlight cross-functional hardware experience in your resume
Zoox's mechanical roles sit at the intersection of structures, thermal, and manufacturing engineering. Applicants who show experience collaborating across these disciplines are stronger fits for roles that require coordinating hardware releases in an autonomous vehicle program.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Mechanical Project Engineer roles
Sponsorship-confirmed job listings for Zoox are easier to track in one place. Use Migrate Mate to browse current Mechanical Project Engineer openings at Zoox filtered by your visa type so you only pursue roles where sponsorship is already confirmed.
Understand PERM timing if targeting a Green Card
If Zoox initiates PERM-based sponsorship for an EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card, the DOL prevailing wage determination and recruitment period can add six to twelve months before an I-140 is filed. Factor this into your long-term authorization planning.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Zoox sponsor H-1B visas for Mechanical Project Engineers?
Yes, Zoox sponsors H-1B visas for Mechanical Project Engineers. The company participates in the annual H-1B cap lottery for new applicants and also files cap-exempt petitions where eligible. Because Zoox operates in autonomous vehicle hardware development, Mechanical Project Engineer roles consistently qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS criteria, making them a strong fit for H-1B sponsorship.
How do I apply for Mechanical Project Engineer jobs at Zoox?
You can browse and apply for Mechanical Project Engineer openings at Zoox directly through Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa sponsorship eligibility so you can confirm Zoox supports your visa category before applying. Zoox typically screens for candidates with relevant hardware development experience and may conduct multiple technical interview rounds focused on mechanical design and systems integration.
Which visa types does Zoox commonly sponsor for Mechanical Project Engineers?
Zoox sponsors a broad range of visa categories for Mechanical Project Engineers, including H-1B, H-1B1 visa for Chilean and Singaporean nationals, E-3 visa for Australian citizens, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican professionals, F-1 OPT and CPT for students, J-1 visa for exchange visitors, and employment-based Green Cards through the EB-2 and EB-3 categories. The right category depends on your nationality, educational background, and current immigration status.
What qualifications and experience does Zoox expect for Mechanical Project Engineer roles?
Zoox typically looks for a bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. Hands-on experience with full vehicle or complex hardware development cycles is valued, including familiarity with CAD tools, DFM principles, tolerance stack-up analysis, and cross-functional coordination. Experience in automotive, aerospace, or robotics hardware programs strengthens your application for roles tied to Zoox's autonomous vehicle platform.
How do timelines work for visa sponsorship after receiving an offer from Zoox?
Timeline depends on your visa category. E-3 and TN visas can often be processed within a few weeks through consular channels, allowing a faster start date. H-1B sponsorship for cap-subject applicants is tied to the annual lottery with an October 1 start date. F-1 OPT authorization should already be active at offer time. For Green Card pathways, PERM labor certification through DOL adds significant lead time before USCIS petition filing.
