Target infrastructure and transportation project lines
Michael Baker staffs mechanical engineers across bridge, highway, and federal facilities work. Tailoring your resume to project delivery experience in those sectors, rather than product manufacturing, increases relevance to the roles they actually fill.
Confirm LCA wage tier before accepting an offer
For H-1B roles, your employer files a Labor Condition Application with DOL certifying prevailing wage compliance. Ask your recruiter which wage level the LCA reflects so you can evaluate the offer against DOL wage data for your job site location.
Use Migrate Mate to surface open sponsorship roles
Mechanical Project Engineer openings at consulting engineering firms fill through project ramp-ups that aren't always widely advertised. Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsorship opportunities at Michael Baker International before positions close.
Prepare project documentation for PERM labor certification
If you're targeting an EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card pathway, gather detailed records of projects you've led or contributed to, including scope, budget, and your specific engineering decisions. PERM audits can require granular evidence of qualifying experience.
Request cap-exempt or cap-subject clarity early
If you're transitioning from a university research role or OPT to a full-time position at Michael Baker International, confirm with HR whether your H-1B filing is cap-subject. The lottery timeline affects your start date, and cap-exempt status is not automatic in this industry.

Does Michael Baker International sponsor H-1B visas for Mechanical Project Engineers?

How do I apply for Mechanical Project Engineer jobs at Michael Baker International?
Applications go through Michael Baker International's careers portal, where you can filter by discipline and location. Before applying, confirm the role lists visa sponsorship as available, since not every posting is eligible. Which visa types does Michael Baker International commonly use for Mechanical Project Engineer roles?
Michael Baker International has sponsored H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, J-1, EB-2, and EB-3 visas for engineering roles. For Mechanical Project Engineers, H-1B is the most common long-term path, while TN is an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering categories. EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship is also available for employees pursuing permanent residence after establishing tenure.
What qualifications and experience does Michael Baker International expect for Mechanical Project Engineer roles?
Most Mechanical Project Engineer postings at Michael Baker International require a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET-accredited program, with several years of relevant project experience in infrastructure, facilities, or transportation sectors. Proficiency in design software relevant to mechanical systems, such as AutoCAD or Revit MEP, is commonly expected alongside a demonstrated ability to manage project deliverables.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Mechanical Project Engineer position at Michael Baker International?
Timeline depends on visa type. For H-1B, USCIS standard processing takes three to five months after the April 1 filing date, with an October 1 start.
