Align your portfolio to Apple hardware verticals
Apple hires Mechanical Project Engineers into specific product lines like iPhone enclosures, Mac thermal systems, and wearables. Tailor your portfolio to show depth in one vertical rather than broad generalist experience to signal a clear fit.
Obtain PE or relevant certifications before applying
Apple's Mechanical Project Engineer roles frequently require demonstrated expertise in DFM, GD&T, or finite element analysis. Credentialing before you apply strengthens your H-1B specialty occupation case and differentiates you from candidates without formal documentation.
Target Apple's hardware organization through referrals
Apple's mechanical engineering headcount is concentrated in its Hardware Engineering division. Internal referrals from engineers already on product teams move applications faster through recruiting, especially for roles that open mid-cycle outside standard university hiring windows.
Understand Apple's LCA filing before your offer finalizes
Apple files a Labor Condition Application with DOL before extending a formal visa-sponsored offer. Knowing this step exists helps you ask the right questions about timeline during the offer stage and avoids surprises if your start date shifts.
Use Migrate Mate to identify open roles filtered by sponsorship type
Apple sponsors several visa categories for this function, but not all open postings surface the sponsorship details clearly. Use Migrate Mate to filter Mechanical Project Engineer openings at Apple by the visa type relevant to your situation.
Plan your OPT or grace period around Apple's hiring cycle
Apple's hardware engineering hiring peaks in early Q1 and Q3. If you're on F-1 OPT, map your remaining authorized work period against these windows to ensure you have enough time to clear background checks and complete pre-boarding before your status expires.

Find Mechanical Project Engineer at Apple JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Apple sponsor H-1B visas for Mechanical Project Engineers?
Yes, Apple sponsors H-1B visas for Mechanical Project Engineers. The role qualifies as a specialty occupation because it requires a bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical engineering or a directly related field. Apple has dedicated immigration counsel that manages the H-1B petition process, including the annual lottery registration in March and premium processing when faster adjudication is needed.
Which visa types does Apple commonly use for Mechanical Project Engineer roles?
Apple sponsors H-1B, H-1B1, E-3, TN, F-1 OPT, and F-1 CPT for Mechanical Project Engineers, as well as employment-based Green Cards through EB-2 and EB-3 classifications. Australian citizens can use the E-3 visa, which bypasses the H-1B lottery. Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering categories can use TN status. The right category depends on your nationality and current immigration status.
How do I apply for Mechanical Project Engineer jobs at Apple?
Applications go through Apple's careers portal at jobs.apple.com. Search for Mechanical Engineer or Project Engineer roles filtered by the Hardware Engineering organization. Tailor your resume to highlight product-specific experience such as enclosure design, thermal management, or manufacturing process development. You can also browse open roles filtered by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate to identify positions aligned with your specific status.
What qualifications does Apple expect for Mechanical Project Engineer positions?
Apple typically expects a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, materials science, or a closely related field, with hands-on experience in product development for consumer electronics. Proficiency in CAD tools like SolidWorks or NX, familiarity with DFM and GD&T, and experience bringing hardware from prototype to mass production are commonly listed requirements. Advanced degrees or experience with Apple-scale manufacturing tolerances can strengthen your application.
How do I plan my timeline if I need visa sponsorship for a Mechanical Project Engineer role at Apple?
Timeline depends heavily on your visa category. H-1B petitions are subject to an annual lottery with registrations opening in March and an October 1 start date, so you need an offer months in advance. E-3 and TN visas can be processed faster, sometimes within weeks. Apple's immigration team typically initiates the LCA filing with DOL after an offer is extended, which adds two to four weeks before USCIS filing can begin.
