Tailor your portfolio to Apple's hardware stack
Apple hires Electrical Design Engineers for specific domains including battery management, RF systems, and custom SoC development. Align your portfolio and resume to the exact discipline in the job posting rather than presenting a broad hardware background.
Confirm LCA-backed wage compliance before negotiating
Apple's E-3, H-1B, and H-1B1 visa petitions require a certified Labor Condition Application from the DOL. The offered salary must meet the prevailing wage for your specific role level and location, so research DOL wage data before entering offer negotiations.
Distinguish OPT STEM extension eligibility early
Electrical Engineering is a STEM-designated field, so F-1 graduates working at Apple can apply for a 24-month OPT extension. Confirm your degree CIP code qualifies before your initial 12-month OPT expires, giving you H-1B cap coverage for two lottery cycles.
Target roles that align with Apple's PERM history
Apple routinely sponsors Electrical Design Engineers for EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards through PERM labor certification. Roles in custom silicon, power delivery, and display hardware have a consistent sponsorship pattern, so prioritize those job families if permanent residency is your goal.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Apple's open hardware roles
Not every Apple Electrical Design Engineer posting is actively sponsoring visas. Use Migrate Mate to filter Apple's current openings by visa type so you're only spending time on roles that match your specific authorization status.
Prepare for hardware-specific technical screens before the offer stage
Apple's Electrical Design Engineer interviews typically include circuit analysis, Bode plot interpretation, and design-for-test questions. Having strong technical interview answers ready shortens your time-to-offer, which matters when your OPT or grace period has a fixed expiration.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Apple sponsor H-1B visas for Electrical Design Engineers?
Yes, Apple sponsors H-1B visas for Electrical Design Engineers. The process involves Apple filing a Labor Condition Application with the DOL, followed by a Form I-129 petition with USCIS after the annual lottery selects your registration. Apple also supports H-1B1 visa and E-3 visas for eligible nationals, which bypass the lottery entirely and offer a faster path to authorization.
How do I apply for Electrical Design Engineer jobs at Apple?
Apply directly through Apple's careers portal, or use Migrate Mate to browse Apple's current Electrical Design Engineer openings filtered by visa sponsorship type. Apple's hardware roles are organized by discipline such as analog, mixed-signal, or power electronics, so identify the team that matches your background before applying to improve your chances of progressing past the initial screen.
Which visa types does Apple commonly use for Electrical Design Engineers?
Apple sponsors Electrical Design Engineers on H-1B, H-1B1 visa for Chilean and Singaporean nationals, E-3 for Australian nationals, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals, and F-1 OPT including the STEM extension. For permanent residency, Apple uses EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through PERM labor certification, which is common for engineers in hardware and silicon design roles.
What qualifications does Apple expect for Electrical Design Engineer roles?
Apple typically requires a bachelor's degree at minimum in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field, and many roles specify a master's degree or equivalent industry experience in areas like analog circuit design, power management, or RF systems. Hands-on experience with simulation tools such as SPICE, familiarity with lab measurement equipment, and a track record of shipping hardware products strengthens your application significantly.
How do I manage visa timing when accepting an Apple offer?
Timing depends on your current status. If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your start date falls within your authorized period and initiate the H-1B registration in March for an October 1 start. E-3 and TN applicants can move faster since those visas don't require lottery selection. For any category, Apple's immigration team typically engages external counsel to manage USCIS or DOL filings after you accept the offer.
