Align your portfolio to Google's hardware scope
Google hires Mechanical Project Engineers across data center cooling systems, custom silicon packaging, and consumer hardware like Pixel and Nest. Frame your portfolio around systems-level mechanical work, thermal management, or NPI processes to match the roles Google actually posts.
Target roles explicitly listing visa sponsorship
Google's job postings vary by team and hiring manager. Filter for postings that explicitly confirm sponsorship availability, since not every open requisition on Google's careers page reflects active headcount with immigration budget attached.
Prepare PE credentials and degree equivalency early
Google's Mechanical Project Engineer roles often require a bachelor's in mechanical engineering or a closely related field. If your degree is from outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation before your offer stage so there's no delay when Google's immigration team starts the LCA filing with DOL.
Ask about premium processing during offer negotiation
Standard H-1B adjudication can run several months. If your current status has a tight runway, ask Google's immigration team during the offer process whether they'll elect USCIS premium processing, which targets a 15 business day adjudication window.
Use Migrate Mate to find open roles by visa type
Google posts Mechanical Project Engineer roles across multiple teams simultaneously, and not all surface easily when filtering by sponsorship. Use Migrate Mate to browse verified Google openings filtered specifically for the visa type you need, so you're applying to active roles with confirmed sponsorship.

Find Mechanical Project Engineer at Google JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Google sponsor H-1B visas for Mechanical Project Engineers?
Yes, Google sponsors H-1B visas for Mechanical Project Engineers. The process begins with Google filing a Labor Condition Application with the DOL, followed by the I-129 petition with USCIS. If you're subject to the H-1B cap, registration opens each March for an October 1 start date. Google also sponsors H-1B1 and E-3 visas depending on your nationality.
How do I apply for Mechanical Project Engineer jobs at Google?
Applications go through Google's careers portal at careers.google.com. Search for Mechanical Project Engineer or related hardware titles, and review the job description carefully for sponsorship language. Tailor your resume to highlight systems-level mechanical work, NPI experience, or thermal and structural analysis. You can also browse verified openings filtered by visa type on Migrate Mate before applying directly through Google's portal.
Which visa types does Google commonly use for Mechanical Project Engineers?
Google typically uses the H-1B for Mechanical Project Engineers who are subject to the annual cap lottery. Australian citizens are often sponsored on the E-3 visa, which bypasses the lottery entirely and allows year-round filing. Candidates from Singapore or Chile may be eligible for the H-1B1. The right visa depends on your citizenship, not just the role.
What qualifications does Google expect for Mechanical Project Engineer roles?
Google's Mechanical Project Engineer postings typically require a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline, along with hands-on experience in product development, NPI, or systems integration. Roles tied to data center hardware often expect thermal or structural analysis experience. Some senior positions list a preference for a master's degree. International candidates with non-U.S. degrees should obtain a credential evaluation before interviewing.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take if I receive an offer from Google?
Timeline depends on visa type and processing elections. For H-1B cap cases, the process starts with March registration, and work authorization doesn't begin until October 1 at the earliest. For E-3 or H-1B1 petitions, which are cap-exempt, Google can file any time after the DOL certifies the LCA, which typically takes seven business days. USCIS standard adjudication for an approved petition can run several months unless Google elects premium processing.
