HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR
Magnolia NC
SUMMARY: Works in the heavy equipment department. Completes work with survey and grading jobs as directed by the heavy equipment supervisor. With seasonal and work load fluctuations will average approximately 50 hours per week working with the heavy equipment crew.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS REQUIRED:
- Able to operate heavy equipment such as backhoe, bulldozer, excavator, skid loader, etc.
- Assists with grading jobs such as installing pipes, grading around buildings or lagoons, installing erosion control measurements (example: placing rock around building drip edges), etc.
- Perform finished grading around buildings and lagoons, cut waterways in spray fields, dig or clean out ditches, road grading, etc.
- Able to operate dump truck, road tractor and trailer, and obtain CDL’s.
- Experience on farm machinery a plus.
- Assists with surveying including topography, design stakeout, grade checking, and other requirements with company and contract crews.
- Utilize company survey equipment in the performance of duties after appropriate training by the Heavy Equipment Manager. Work practices must emphasize safety, efficiency, and thoroughness.
- Perform at a high level of competence so that other MFV personnel or contractors can depend upon information collected and disseminated to be accurate for use.
REQUIREMENTS
- Willing to learn how to operate multiple types of heavy equipment and/or survey equipment.
- Good attitude / willing to be part of the team, and take pride in quality of work.
- Able to lift up to 70 lbs.
- Work outside through all seasons.
- Work schedule includes early start; often days are longer than 8 hours (as required to complete task).
- Perform other duties as defined by supervisor.
- Current NC CDL Class A Drivers license in good standing.
- One year experience CDL experience and operating Heavy Equipment.
Common survey tasks include: Stakeout grading projects, Set grades, Identify property boundaries and setbacks, Pull tape for measurements, Operate survey equipment (level) – after minimal training from supervisor, Topo land, Holds grade rods/prism.
Common heavy equipment tasks include: Repair and maintenance of roads, and lagoon; Improving drainage around buildings, roads, and spray fields; Repair erosion, Install and maintain drainage pipe.
