Responsibilities and Tasks
- Perform routine maintenance on ammonia compressors, air compressors, ammonia liquid pumps, ammonia system controls, refrigeration system condensers, air system drying equipment, and air system controls.
- Perform routine maintenance on Miura Steam Boilers and associated equipment, Hot Water Systems, HVAC Equipment, Air Compressors, Auger Chillers, Water Pumps, along with all support and building services.
- Ability to read schematics, as-built drawings, and P&ID Drawings.
- Ability to read as well as understand instructions for a broad range of mechanical, electronic, electrical, manual, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Perform basic fabrications as needed.
- Safely isolate and pump down any section of all systems, and perform line-opening procedures.
- Receive or transfer ammonia in all plant systems.
- Formal Training in Ammonia Refrigeration is preferred; OJT, along with schooling, will be provided to candidates with the right qualifications.
- As part of the maintenance mechanics, the team associate will be required to perform basic mechanical troubleshooting, repairs, and minor fabrications as needed.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Must have at least 2 years of experience in industrial refrigeration.
- Must have 1 year of experience in electronics and PLC controls.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
- Experience in ammonia or freon refrigeration, boiler operations, and/or compressed air.
- CFC/EPA Certifications preferred.
- OJT, with schooling, will be provided for candidates with other minimum qualifications.
- Ability to work various shifts or work overtime as needed.
- Candidate must have their own tools; tool allowance provided.
Physical Requirements

- Ability to work full shift in a stationary position or travel on wet, moist, dry, greasy floors which may include metal or plastic grating surfaces for up to 4 hours in a single interval.
- Ability to work from various types of ladders and/or stairs.
- Exposure to and work in temperatures of less than -40 degrees and more than 75 degrees with ambient humidity.
- Noise exposure of 110 db, and varying light intensity up to 100 footcandles.
- Occasional heavy lifting over 80 pounds; frequent lifting up to 25 pounds; bending, twisting, lifting, sitting, and grasping vary in repetitions, distance, degrees, angles, weights, heights, longest intervals, objects grasped, and body positions depending on the maintenance task required.
- Exposure to chlorinated water (50 ppm), ammonia vapors, dry ice, caustic detergents, lubricating oils, hydraulic oils, and other chemicals found in a poultry processing plant.
- Must use and/or wear protective and safety equipment required for the job.
