Construction Jobs in Honolulu: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a construction job in Honolulu?
Focus your search on commercial general contractors, residential developers, and public infrastructure firms active in Kakaako, Downtown Honolulu, and the planned rail corridor projects. Familiarity with Hawaii-specific building codes, concrete and steel work suited to high-rise and seismic requirements, and experience on urban infill sites gives candidates a real edge here. Connecting directly with project superintendents at active job sites is a common and effective local approach.
Which companies hire constructions in Honolulu?
Companies currently hiring constructions in Honolulu include Highgate, Bergeman, and ECC, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. The local market includes a mix of large regional general contractors, specialty subcontractors in mechanical and electrical trades, and public works firms tied to city and state infrastructure programs.
Are there remote construction jobs in Honolulu?
Yes, but only for desk-based roles such as project management, estimating, and scheduling, since hands-on field and site work requires a physical presence. About 0% of construction openings tied to Honolulu are remote or hybrid as of November 2026, reflecting those office-side functions. Estimators and construction managers coordinating with mainland clients are among the roles most likely to offer hybrid arrangements locally.
How can I get a construction job in Honolulu with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Honolulu is through a registered apprenticeship with one of the building trades unions active on Oahu, which combine paid on-the-job training with classroom instruction. Entry-level laborer and helper roles with commercial general contractors working on Kakaako mixed-use and rail-adjacent projects are another common first step. Demonstrating reliability, a current OSHA 10 card, and any concrete or framing exposure sets applicants apart at the entry level here.
