Construction Jobs in Syracuse: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a construction job in Syracuse?
Focus on the sectors driving the most hiring in Syracuse right now: the I-81 viaduct replacement project, ongoing Downtown revitalization, and residential growth in the Near Westside and Eastside neighborhoods. General contractors, specialty subcontractors, and public works firms tend to hire steadily here. Candidates with OSHA certification, experience on municipal or mixed-use projects, and familiarity with union hall hiring through local building trades councils have the strongest edge.
Which companies hire constructions in Syracuse?
Companies currently hiring constructions in Syracuse include McFarland Johnson, Phalcon, and City of Syracuse, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Syracuse's construction employer mix skews toward regional general contractors, civil infrastructure firms serving Onondaga County, and specialty trades outfits tied to university, healthcare, and public sector build-outs.
Are there remote construction jobs in Syracuse?
Yes, but only for a narrow slice of roles. Hands-on field and trades positions are almost entirely on-site by nature, while project management, estimating, scheduling, and BIM coordination roles can carry remote or hybrid flexibility. About 0% of construction openings tied to Syracuse are remote or hybrid as of November 2026. Office-based roles at Syracuse-area general contractors and owners' representative firms are the most likely to offer remote days.
How can I get a construction job in Syracuse with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Syracuse is through a union apprenticeship with one of the local building trades councils, which provide paid on-the-job training without requiring prior experience. Regional general contractors working on Onondaga County public projects and Syracuse University campus expansions also hire laborers and helpers at the entry level. Flagging roles, material handling, and site cleanup positions are common first steps, and showing up reliably with an OSHA 10 card in hand gives candidates a clear advantage over unverified applicants.
