Controls Engineer Jobs in Phoenix: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a controls engineer job in Phoenix?
Focus your search on Phoenix's three dominant hiring pockets: the Deer Valley and North Phoenix industrial corridor for aerospace and defense manufacturers, Chandler and Gilbert for semiconductor and electronics firms, and the West Valley industrial parks in Goodyear and Tolleson for food and beverage and logistics automation. Candidates with hands-on PLC programming experience, particularly Allen-Bradley or Siemens platforms, stand out most in Phoenix's manufacturing-heavy market. Networking through Arizona's Society of Automotive Engineers chapter and local MESA events also opens doors that online applications do not.
Which companies hire controls engineers in Phoenix?
Phoenix controls engineer roles are posted by Lucid Motors, Sundt, and Carrier and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Phoenix's employer mix tends toward semiconductor equipment makers, aerospace systems integrators, and large-scale utility and water treatment operators, all of which maintain ongoing controls engineering needs.
Are there remote controls engineer jobs in Phoenix?
Yes, but controls engineer roles are predominantly on-site given the hands-on nature of commissioning, troubleshooting, and equipment programming. About 23% of controls engineer openings tied to Phoenix are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those positions tend to be in controls system design, SCADA configuration, or project engineering roles that do not require daily floor access.
How can I get a controls engineer job in Phoenix with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Phoenix is through a maintenance technician or automation technician role at one of the city's large semiconductor or food manufacturing facilities, where hands-on PLC exposure accelerates a move into a junior controls engineer title. Employers in Chandler's Intel supply chain and West Valley distribution centers regularly hire associate-level candidates with two-year electrical engineering technology degrees or mechatronics certifications from Maricopa Community Colleges. Building a small portfolio of PLC ladder logic samples and completing a Rockwell or Siemens online certification before applying gives entry-level candidates a concrete edge.
Which industries hire the most controls engineers in Phoenix?
Phoenix controls engineer roles concentrate in Construction & Real Estate, Energy, and Technology & Software, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Phoenix's position as a major semiconductor manufacturing hub, combined with its growing aerospace and defense presence and expanding utility infrastructure, makes those sectors the most consistent sources of controls engineering demand in the metro.
