Job Description
Lead the strategy and execution of Generac’s enterprise-wide safety programs, driving measurable improvements across business functions and global locations. This role owns the development, governance, and continuous enhancement of key initiatives—including the Generac Safety Index (GSI), SIF prevention programs, and the GOS Safety Pillar—ensuring consistency, accountability, and results.
You will partner closely with site and functional leaders to standardize practices, strengthen compliance, and advance Generac’s Drive to Zero vision, while also overseeing day-to-day safety operations at Corporate Headquarters. This is a high-impact leadership role focused on building a culture of safety excellence and achieving zero incidents.
Areas of focus are
Regulatory Compliance Monitoring and Reporting:
- Own and ensure execution of all safety compliance programs, including training, inspections, reporting, recordkeeping, and hazard communication (SDS).
- Lead enterprise safety training strategy using LMS/HRIS platforms to drive engagement and impact.
- Oversee regulatory reporting and systems (ETQ), ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local requirements while driving continuous improvement.
Worksite Analysis:
- Lead risk-based audits and field validations to ensure compliance, program effectiveness, and alignment with Generac standards and the GOS Safety Pillar.
- Drive enterprise leading indicator programs, including the Generac Safety Index, safety observations, and JSA effectiveness.
- Deliver audit insights and reports with actionable recommendations to strengthen compliance and operational excellence.
Hazard Prevention and Control:
- Lead SIF risk identification and mitigation through critical element programs, field validation, and effective safety controls across operations.
- Oversee incident investigations (injuries, near misses, property damage), ensuring strong root cause analysis and sustainable corrective actions.
- Drive safe work practices through ergonomic assessments, workstation validation, and training on proper use of safety equipment and procedures.
Strategy and Leadership:
- Own and lead the Generac Safety Index (GSI) and enterprise safety metrics, ensuring data integrity, validation, and performance alignment.
- Drive Critical Element–based SIF prevention programs (e.g., LOTO, PIT, Electrical Safe Work, Hoist/Crane/Rigging).
- Establish and standardize enterprise safety practices, partnering with site EHS teams to implement best-in-class programs.
- Validate and strengthen the GOS Safety Pillar through audits, field verification, and continuous improvement.
- Lead enterprise safety reviews, global EHS meetings, and alignment of leading/lagging indicators to improve outcomes.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and training to EHS teams while advancing the Drive to Zero strategy and global safety performance.
- Develops and/or recommends operating capital budgets and controls expenditures within approved budget objectives.
- Lead, coach, and develop the safety team, setting clear expectations and driving strong performance.
- Oversee regulatory reporting and ensure timely, accurate submission of all safety-related requirements.
- Manage budgets and resources to support safety initiatives while maintaining cost efficiency.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Valid Driver’s License
- 7 years of progressive Occupational Safety experience within a manufacturing environment
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Requirements
- Master’s in Business Administration, Engineering, or EHS related field
- CSP, CIH, or PE Certification
- Valid First Aid and CPR Certifications
- Minimum 5 years of progressive Safety/EHS leadership experience in a multi-site role with direct reports
- Previous experience using SAP or equivalent ERP
- ISO 45001 Experience or equivalent
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 - 50 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus.
