Counselor Jobs in Raleigh: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a counselor job in Raleigh?
The strongest hiring activity in Raleigh is in community mental health centers, the Wake County Public School System, hospital outpatient programs, and nonprofit human services agencies concentrated in midtown and the North Hills corridor. Candidates who hold a relevant graduate degree, have completed supervised clinical hours, and can demonstrate experience with specific populations, such as adolescents, veterans, or substance use clients, move to the top of the list in this market.
Which companies hire counselors in Raleigh?
Companies currently hiring counselors in Raleigh include YMCA, Duke Health, and LifeStance Health, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. The local employer mix reflects Raleigh's combination of large health systems, public school districts, behavioral health nonprofits, and private outpatient practices.
Are there remote counselor jobs in Raleigh?
Yes, though remote availability is limited for roles that require in-person sessions or supervised clinical settings. About 66% of counselor openings tied to Raleigh are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with the most flexibility found in employee assistance programs and telehealth platforms serving the broader Research Triangle region.
How can I get a counselor job in Raleigh with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Raleigh is through a supervised internship or practicum placement with a community mental health agency or Wake County school program, many of which convert strong interns to staff. Entry-level case manager and behavior technician roles at local nonprofits and residential treatment facilities are also common stepping stones, and completing a graduate practicum with a Raleigh-area employer significantly improves your chances of a direct hire offer.
