Counselor Jobs in Philadelphia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a counselor job in Philadelphia?
Focus on Philadelphia's largest hiring sectors: behavioral health agencies, the School District of Philadelphia, hospital-affiliated outpatient clinics, and community health centers in neighborhoods like Kensington and Germantown. Candidates with experience in crisis intervention, substance use treatment, or trauma-informed care have a clear edge in this market. Bilingual Spanish proficiency is a frequent differentiator given the city's Latino communities in North and Southwest Philadelphia.
Which companies hire counselors in Philadelphia?
Employers hiring counselors in Philadelphia right now include School District of Philadelphia, Temple University Health System, and Xiente, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Philadelphia's counselor market is anchored by large health systems, federally qualified health centers, and nonprofit behavioral health organizations operating throughout the city's neighborhoods.
Are there remote counselor jobs in Philadelphia?
Yes, though counselor roles are predominantly in-person given the hands-on nature of direct client care. About 50% of counselor openings tied to Philadelphia are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with telehealth platforms and employee assistance programs accounting for most of those flexible positions.
How can I get a counselor job in Philadelphia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Philadelphia is securing a counselor aide, case manager aide, or behavioral health technician role at one of the city's many nonprofit community behavioral health centers, which routinely hire candidates who are still completing supervised hours. Organizations in West Philadelphia and North Philadelphia are especially active in developing early-career staff, and a completed practicum placement at a Philadelphia site often converts directly into a hire.
