CPT Physician - Anesthesiology Jobs
Physician - Anesthesiology CPT roles require DSO authorization before your start date and must tie directly to your medical or health sciences curriculum. Most positions are clinical rotations at hospital systems or academic medical centers. Your I-20 must reflect the CPT authorization, and full-time CPT exceeding 12 months affects OPT eligibility.

Get Access To All JobsPhysician - Anesthesiology CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Can F-1 students on CPT work in clinical anesthesiology settings?
Yes, but only if the clinical rotation is an integral part of your enrolled curriculum and your DSO authorizes it on your I-20 before your start date. Anesthesiology CPT typically requires a formal affiliation agreement between your school and the hospital or surgery center. You can't begin work until both the DSO authorization and the agreement are in place.
Does working as a physician in anesthesiology on CPT affect my future OPT?
Full-time CPT that totals 12 months or more makes you ineligible for OPT. Since anesthesiology rotations are often full-time clinical placements, track your cumulative full-time CPT carefully. Part-time CPT, defined as 20 hours per week or fewer, doesn't count against your OPT eligibility regardless of duration.
What type of employer can authorize CPT for anesthesiology roles?
Academic medical centers, hospital systems with Graduate Medical Education offices, and accredited surgery centers are the most common CPT sites for anesthesiology. The employer must be willing to sign a training or affiliation agreement with your school. Independent private practices rarely have these agreements in place and may not qualify under your program's CPT policy.
How do I find anesthesiology CPT positions with employers already familiar with F-1 authorization?
Migrate Mate filters physician roles by employers with documented visa sponsorship and authorization history, making it easier to identify hospital systems already set up for F-1 students. Targeting employers with existing university affiliation agreements is the most efficient path, since your DSO can authorize CPT faster when the training site is already approved.
Can my anesthesiology CPT employer later sponsor me for an H-1B or other work visa?
Yes. CPT doesn't create any barrier to future H-1B sponsorship, and anesthesiology qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards because the role requires at minimum a Doctor of Medicine degree. Some employers use CPT rotations as an extended evaluation period before committing to H-1B sponsorship, so treat the rotation as a working interview for long-term employment.
