CPT Project Director Jobs
Project Director CPT roles put you in charge of cross-functional teams, budgets, and deliverables, making them some of the most academically demanding placements a DSO will authorize. Your I-20 must reflect a program that treats project management as a required curricular component, not an elective add-on, before CPT can begin.

Get Access To All JobsProject Director CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Project Director role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if your academic program includes a project management, construction management, IT management, or related curricular requirement. Your DSO must confirm the role is an integral part of your degree plan, a Project Director placement in a field unrelated to your major won't qualify. Bring a detailed job description to your DSO appointment showing managerial and cross-functional responsibilities tied to your coursework.
Can I do full-time CPT as a Project Director without affecting OPT eligibility?
Full-time CPT for 12 months or more eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely under SEVP rules. Most F-1 students pursuing Project Director placements structure them as part-time CPT (under 20 hours per week) or limit full-time CPT to under 12 cumulative months. Coordinate with your DSO before accepting a full-time offer so you don't inadvertently exhaust your post-graduation work authorization.
How do I find employers that will hire F-1 CPT students for Project Director roles?
Start on Migrate Mate, which surfaces employers with verified LCA filing history for project management and director-level roles. Many Project Director positions are with construction firms, engineering consultancies, IT services companies, and healthcare systems, industries with established patterns of hiring F-1 students. Filter by industry and role level to focus on organizations familiar with work authorization requirements.
What documentation does my employer need from me before CPT begins?
Your employer needs your current I-20 with the CPT authorization endorsement showing the specific employer name, start and end dates, and authorization type. They'll also need your visa stamp and I-94 record to complete I-9 verification. Some employers with formal HR processes also request your offer letter, enrollment verification, and DSO contact information before finalizing onboarding paperwork.
Does CPT experience as a Project Director strengthen an H-1B petition later?
Yes, documented CPT work as a Project Director creates a clear employment history that supports the specialty occupation requirement in a future H-1B visa petition. Keep your CPT authorization letters, performance reviews, and any project deliverables or scope documents from your placement. Employers who hired you on CPT and want to continue sponsoring you already have institutional familiarity with your work, which simplifies the LCA and H-1B filing process.
