ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As a project manager intern, you will assist the project management team in the execution of projects that are safe, on time, and within project budget. Project Manager Interns will interact across multiple internal departments and roles, including preconstruction, subcontractors, and field management to assist with various aspects of a project lifecycle. We are seeking a motivated individual looking to grow with the RJM team and enhance our team culture.
ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Read and understand plans, specifications, and other documents to understand the project scope
- Effectively communicate with internal and external project stakeholders, both written and verbal, to convey project questions, directions, reports, or other correspondences
- Attend and support project meetings such as Owner/Architect/Contractor, subcontractor, pre-installation meetings, or punch list meetings
- Assist the project manager in updating and delivery of project schedules
- Update and maintain accurate as-built documents as changes on projects are encountered
- Conduct safety walkthroughs of jobsites with field and project management staff, and ensure any deficiencies are corrected
- Assist in the ordering or scheduled delivery of materials to the jobsite
- Maintain awareness of new and emerging industry practices and the potential application to client engagements
- Assist with project closeout tasks
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Pursuing BS Degree in Construction Management or related field
Work Experience:
- General building construction and terminology knowledge
- Working knowledge of building codes
- Previous internship or estimating experience preferred but not required
- Ability to read plans and specifications
- Understanding of Construction Systems and CSI codes
Demonstrated Technical Competencies to include:
- Microsoft applications: Excel, Word, Outlook, and Project
- Bluebeam
- Viewpoint Software
Demonstrated Professional Competencies to include:
- Excellent time management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability and confidence to work directly with clients
- Team-oriented; flexible; professional; enjoys new challenges
- Ability to harvest and maintain relationships with clients, architects/engineers, and subcontractors
Professional Certifications or Licenses:
- School or industry-related certifications or accolades

Can I do CPT as a Project Manager if my degree is in computer science or engineering?
Yes. Technical Project Manager and IT Project Manager positions are a common CPT match for computer science and engineering students because the role requires applying domain knowledge to software delivery or systems implementation. Your DSO will look for that technical overlap in the job description, not just the PM title, so make sure the posting reflects the technical scope of the work.

Report the change to your DSO promptly and request a revised authorization if necessary.
Does working as a Project Manager on CPT affect my eligibility for STEM OPT later?
Only full-time CPT counts against your OPT eligibility. Twelve or more months of full-time CPT eliminates OPT entirely, including STEM OPT. Part-time CPT at 20 hours or fewer per week does not reduce your OPT or STEM OPT eligibility regardless of how long it runs. STEM OPT also requires that your employer be enrolled in E-Verify, which is separate from your CPT authorization.
