CPT Repair Specialist Jobs
Repair Specialist roles tie directly to programs in applied technology, engineering technology, and industrial maintenance, making them a strong CPT fit when your DSO can document the curriculum connection. Your authorization covers hands-on diagnostics, equipment calibration, and systems restoration work that classroom labs alone can't replicate.

Get Access To All JobsRepair Specialist CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Repair Specialist work qualify as an integral part of my curriculum for CPT?
It qualifies when your academic program explicitly includes applied maintenance, systems diagnostics, or engineering technology coursework that the repair work reinforces. Your DSO will evaluate whether the employer's listed duties map to your program's learning outcomes. Roles focused purely on customer service or parts sales without hands-on technical work are harder to justify under CPT's integral-part requirement.
Can I do CPT as a Repair Specialist before completing my first academic year?
No. USCIS regulations prohibit F-1 students from beginning CPT until they've completed one full academic year in status. There's no waiver for this rule, even if the job offer is time-sensitive. Plan your CPT start date around your program's annual milestone and get your DSO's authorization updated on your I-20 before your first day.
What happens to my CPT authorization if my Repair Specialist employer changes my job site location?
CPT is tied to the specific employer and work location listed on your I-20. If the employer moves you to a different facility, even within the same company, your DSO must update your I-20 before you report to the new site. Working at an unauthorized location puts your F-1 status at risk, so notify your DSO as soon as you learn about the change.
How do I find Repair Specialist employers who have experience hiring F-1 CPT students?
Migrate Mate lists employers with documented work-authorization histories, so you can focus on companies that already understand F-1 onboarding requirements. Repair and maintenance employers vary widely in their familiarity with CPT paperwork, and targeting those with prior experience shortens the time between offer and your DSO's authorization approval.
Does full-time CPT as a Repair Specialist affect my OPT eligibility after graduation?
Yes. Twelve months or more of full-time CPT eliminates your post-completion OPT eligibility entirely. Part-time CPT, defined as fewer than 20 hours per week, has no cap and doesn't affect OPT. If you're planning to use OPT or pursue H-1B sponsorship after graduation, track your full-time CPT hours carefully and discuss the tradeoff with your DSO before accepting a full-time schedule.
