Data Center Jobs in Montana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data center technician in Montana?
Montana does not require a state-issued license specifically for data center roles, so entry is credential-driven rather than regulated. Most employers expect at least a CompTIA A+ certification and hands-on experience with server hardware. An associate or bachelor's degree in information technology or computer science strengthens applications. Montana Tech and the University of Montana offer relevant programs, and community colleges such as Flathead Valley Community College provide technical pathways into the field.
Which companies hire data centers in Montana?
Employers hiring data centers in Montana right now include Swiggy, onXmaps, and Providence, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Montana's technology and financial services sectors, along with state government agencies and higher education institutions, generate consistent hiring across the state.
Which Montana cities have the most data center jobs?
Bozeman, Malta, and Billings are the Montana cities with the most data center openings. Billings leads as the state's largest commercial hub, anchored by financial services firms and energy companies that operate significant IT infrastructure, while Missoula's concentration of university and healthcare institutions drives steady demand in the other markets.
Are there remote data center jobs in Montana?
Yes, but they're rare. Data center work is largely hands-on, requiring physical presence to manage hardware, cabling, and facility systems. About 88% of data center openings tied to Montana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions tend to be in monitoring, network operations center work, or vendor management rather than direct facilities roles.
How can I get hired as a data center technician in Montana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an IT help desk or desktop support role at a Montana hospital, university, or regional financial institution, which builds hardware and ticketing experience that data center teams value. Employers such as Billings Clinic and RightNow Technologies alumni network have historically hired from these lateral roles. Earning a CompTIA A+ certification before applying demonstrates technical readiness and moves an inexperienced candidate past initial screening at most Montana sites.
Where can I find and apply to data center jobs in Montana?
You can find and apply to data center jobs in Montana on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience and location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
