Data Center Jobs in Omaha: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a data center job in Omaha?
The strongest path into Omaha's data center market runs through its hyperscale cloud campuses, financial services firms, and the enterprise IT operations that cluster in Aksarben and along West Dodge Road. Candidates with hands-on experience in server hardware, network infrastructure, or facilities management get the most calls. Certifications from CompTIA, Cisco, or an OSHA electrical safety course give local applicants a clear edge over general IT candidates.
Which companies hire data centers in Omaha?
Companies currently hiring data centers in Omaha include Mortenson Construction, GXO Logistics, and Olsson, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Omaha's employer mix leans toward large cloud infrastructure operators, financial services companies with significant on-premises infrastructure, and regional managed service providers that maintain multi-tenant colocation facilities.
Are there remote data center jobs in Omaha?
Yes, but only partially: hands-on roles such as data center technician, facilities engineer, and cabling specialist are almost entirely on-site by nature, while monitoring, capacity planning, and NOC analyst positions carry genuine remote or hybrid flexibility. About 40% of data center openings tied to Omaha are remote or hybrid as of September 2026. The desk-based and analytical side of data center operations is where remote work is most common among Omaha employers.
How can I get a data center job in Omaha with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point in Omaha is a data center technician or operations associate role at one of the city's colocation or cloud campus facilities, where employers routinely hire candidates with a strong mechanical or electrical aptitude even without a degree. Metro Community College and the University of Nebraska Omaha offer IT infrastructure coursework that local hiring managers recognize. Volunteering for physical IT work inside a Midwestern enterprise or regional MSP and earning a CompTIA A+ or Network+ before applying gives entry-level candidates a concrete advantage.
Which industries hire the most data centers in Omaha?
Most data center openings in Omaha sit in Construction & Real Estate, Consulting & Professional Services, and Investment & Asset Management, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Omaha's role as a regional financial hub and a growing hyperscale cloud build-out destination means those sectors consistently generate the highest volume of full-time data center hiring in the metro.
