Data Center Jobs in Nebraska: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data center technician in Nebraska?
Most data center roles in Nebraska do not require a state-issued license, but employers consistently expect an industry certification such as CompTIA Server+ or a vendor credential from Cisco or Dell. A two-year degree in information technology or electronics from a community college like Metropolitan Community College in Omaha or Southeast Community College in Lincoln gives candidates a strong foundation. Entry candidates who combine that education with a certification are competitive for technician openings at Nebraska-based employers.
Which companies hire data centers in Nebraska?
Employers hiring data centers in Nebraska right now include Mortenson Construction, GXO Logistics, and Google, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Nebraska's concentration of financial services headquarters, telecommunications companies, and agricultural technology firms in the Omaha and Lincoln metro areas makes it a consistent source of data center hiring throughout the year.
Which Nebraska cities have the most data center jobs?
Omaha, Lincoln, and Springfield lead Nebraska for data center openings. Omaha drives the bulk of demand as the state's largest metro and home to major financial services, logistics, and technology employers, while Lincoln's concentration of state government agencies, university systems, and regional business headquarters supports a steady secondary market for infrastructure roles.
Are there remote data center jobs in Nebraska?
Yes, but they're rare. Data center work is largely hands-on and requires physical presence to manage hardware, cabling, and equipment in live facilities. About 0% of data center openings tied to Nebraska are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions are almost entirely in monitoring, operations coordination, or remote infrastructure management rather than floor-level technician roles.
How can I get hired as a data center technician in Nebraska with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a data center operations associate or IT infrastructure assistant role at one of Nebraska's large employers in Omaha or Lincoln. Metropolitan Community College and Southeast Community College offer IT programs that lead directly into these openings. Union Pacific, Mutual of Omaha, and regional managed service providers periodically post entry-level technician roles that accept candidates without prior data center experience if they hold a CompTIA A+ or Server+ certification. Lateral moves from IT help desk or network support roles are also a common door into data center operations in Nebraska.
Where can I find and apply to data center jobs in Nebraska?
