INTRODUCTION
Google isn't just a software company. The Hardware Operations team is responsible for monitoring the state-of-the-art physical infrastructure behind Google's powerful search technology. As a Hardware Operations Manager, you will manage a team of Data Center Technicians. You will oversee the quality installation of server hardware and components and take charge of complicated installations/troubleshooting. Your team will install, configure, test, troubleshoot and maintain hardware (like servers and its components) and server software (like Google's Linux cluster). They will also take on the configuration of more complex components such as networks, routers, hubs, bridges, switches and networking protocols. They may lead small project teams on larger installations and develop project contingency plans. Google's groundbreaking search technology relies on a cutting-edge infrastructure, and the Server Operations team ensures it all runs smoothly.
As a Server Operations Manager, you'll lead a team of skilled Data Center Technicians who are the backbone of this operation. You'll guide the team in the installation and maintenance of server hardware, networking equipment, and their components, all while troubleshooting challenges head-on. The team will be skilled in configuring and maintaining not just servers, but the entire network ecosystem – routers, switches, and the protocols that connect them all. You'll assist and ensure complex projects are navigated by removing road blocks and developing plans to keep things running efficiently. In this role, you'll be key to the success of the data center, proactively monitoring performance, anticipating potential issues, and collaborating closely with the area lead, site manager, peer OMs, and partnering teams like DCOps, Security, and GSO-L to ensure optimal operational efficiency.

Senior Level Data Center Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a senior level data center job?
Employers hiring at this level look for candidates who have owned outcomes, not just contributed to them. Demonstrate that you have led infrastructure projects from planning through delivery, made architectural decisions under pressure, and mentored junior engineers. Certifications like DCDC, CDCP, or vendor credentials from Cisco or Juniper strengthen your profile, but documented results on uptime, capacity planning, or cost reduction carry the most weight.
Which companies hire senior level data centers?
Companies hiring senior level data centers right now include Meta, Turner & Townsend Pty Limited, and Google, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level tends to come from hyperscalers, colocation providers, large enterprises with private infrastructure, and managed service firms that need experienced professionals to lead operations and drive reliability standards.
Are there remote senior level data center jobs?
Yes, though most data center roles require at least some on-site presence given the hands-on nature of the work. About 30% of senior level data center openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and these positions typically focus on architecture, program management, or vendor oversight rather than direct facilities or systems work.
What makes a data center role senior level?
Senior level data center roles are defined by ownership, scope, and leadership. You are expected to set technical direction, own critical decisions around power, cooling, network, or compute infrastructure, and be accountable for outcomes rather than tasks. Mentoring junior staff, leading cross-functional projects, and partnering with stakeholders on capacity and resiliency planning distinguish these roles from mid-level positions.
Which industries hire the most senior level data centers?
Senior Level data center roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Consulting & Professional Services, and Construction & Real Estate, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive hiring because they operate large-scale or business-critical infrastructure that demands experienced professionals who can lead operations, manage risk, and deliver on uptime and compliance requirements.
