Data Engineering Manager Jobs in Boston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a data engineering manager job in Boston?
Focus on Boston's three dominant hiring sectors: biotech and life sciences, financial services, and enterprise technology. Employers in the Seaport District and Kendall Square corridor move quickly and value hands-on experience with cloud data platforms and pipeline architecture at scale. Candidates who can demonstrate cross-functional leadership, specifically coordinating between data science and software engineering teams, stand out in Boston's collaborative, research-adjacent market.
Which companies hire data engineering managers in Boston?
Employers hiring data engineering managers in Boston right now include PwC, Klaviyo, and Amazon, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Boston's market is anchored by established financial institutions downtown, fast-scaling biotech firms near Longwood and Kendall Square, and a growing cluster of enterprise SaaS companies in the Seaport.
Are there remote data engineering manager jobs in Boston?
Yes, though manager-level roles with direct team oversight tend to require at least some in-office presence. About 14% of data engineering manager openings tied to Boston are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with flexibility most common at enterprise tech and SaaS employers rather than biotech or financial services firms that maintain larger on-site engineering teams.
How can I get a data engineering manager job in Boston with little or no experience?
The most realistic path in Boston is stepping into a senior data engineer role first, then moving into management as teams grow. Boston's biotech and healthtech companies frequently promote from within, and the city's university ties mean co-op and contract-to-hire pipelines are common entry points. Building experience with orchestration tools and leading small project teams, even informally, makes the transition to a formal manager title more competitive locally.
Which industries hire the most data engineering managers in Boston?
Most data engineering manager openings in Boston sit in Technology & Software, Banking & Financial Services, and Retail, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Boston's concentration of top-tier research hospitals, global asset managers, and venture-backed technology firms creates consistent, parallel demand for data infrastructure leadership across all three sectors.
