Portfolio Analyst Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a portfolio analyst in Massachusetts?
Most portfolio analyst roles in Massachusetts require a bachelor's degree in finance, economics, accounting, or a related field as the starting point. Massachusetts does not impose a state-specific license for portfolio analysts, but employers across Boston's asset management corridor expect candidates to be pursuing or to have earned the CFA designation. Strong quantitative skills, familiarity with institutional investment systems, and internship experience at a Massachusetts-based fund or bank significantly strengthen your candidacy.
How much do portfolio analysts make in Massachusetts?
Portfolio analysts in Massachusetts earn a median of about $111,040 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $77,940 for the lowest 10% to over $205,320 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire portfolio analysts in Massachusetts?
Employers hiring portfolio analysts in Massachusetts right now include Man, BNY, and VRC, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Massachusetts's deep concentration of mutual fund companies, insurance asset managers, and endowment offices means the hiring pool is broad and consistently active throughout the year.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most portfolio analyst jobs?
Boston and Woburn have the most portfolio analyst openings in Massachusetts. Boston dominates because it is home to one of the largest concentrations of asset managers and institutional investors in the country, while Cambridge and Worcester draw openings from university endowments, regional banks, and insurance carriers that maintain significant investment operations outside the city core.
Are there remote portfolio analyst jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, and more than many finance roles. About 67% of portfolio analyst openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the work centers on data analysis and reporting rather than in-person client contact. Research-heavy and performance-reporting functions tend to be the most remote-friendly, while client-facing or trading-adjacent roles typically require regular on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a portfolio analyst in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a rotational analyst program at one of Boston's large asset managers, such as those run by Fidelity Investments or State Street, which recruit directly from Massachusetts universities. Lateral moves from roles like fund accountant, investment operations associate, or financial reporting analyst are also common on-ramps. Earning the first level of the CFA examination and building a personal portfolio model or investment thesis write-up gives early-career candidates a concrete edge in a competitive applicant pool.
Where can I find and apply to portfolio analyst jobs in Massachusetts?
