Data Analytics Lead Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data analytics lead in Massachusetts?
The most direct path is earning a bachelor's degree in data science, statistics, mathematics, or computer science, followed by several years of hands-on analytics experience before stepping into a lead role. Massachusetts has no state-issued license for data analytics leads, so employers focus on demonstrated technical skill and leadership experience. Graduate programs at institutions like MIT, Boston University, and Northeastern University are well regarded by Massachusetts hiring managers and can accelerate advancement into lead-level roles.
How much do data analytics leads make in Massachusetts?
Data analytics leads in Massachusetts earn a median of about $131,750 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $81,030 for the lowest 10% to over $206,220 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire data analytics leads in Massachusetts?
Employers hiring data analytics leads in Massachusetts right now include Collegium Pharmaceutical, Klaviyo, and Xometry, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Massachusetts's concentration of life sciences companies, major financial institutions, and healthtech firms creates consistent, year-round demand for analytics leadership across the state.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most data analytics lead jobs?
Boston, Waltham, and Somerville have the most data analytics lead openings in Massachusetts. Boston and Cambridge drive the largest share of postings because of their dense concentration of biotech, financial services, and technology employers, while Waltham and other Route 128 corridor communities attract significant demand from established corporate headquarters and regional offices anchored there.
Are there remote data analytics lead jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 50% of data analytics lead openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how well the work translates to distributed environments. Responsibilities involving data modeling, dashboard development, and cross-team strategy are most commonly performed fully remote, while roles requiring close collaboration with lab or operations teams tend to be hybrid.
How can I get hired as a data analytics lead in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing an analyst or senior analyst role at a Massachusetts employer and building toward a lead position from within. Large Massachusetts-based employers in life sciences and financial services, including major hospital networks and asset management firms, regularly hire junior analysts and offer structured rotational or development programs that build leadership skills. A portfolio demonstrating end-to-end project ownership, combined with a relevant credential such as a graduate certificate in data science from a Massachusetts university, gives candidates a measurable edge when competing for first-time lead roles.
