Role Overview
CarGurus is seeking a Business Analytics Analyst to join the Business Analytics & Reporting team. This team is responsible for the analytical rigor behind reporting, forecasting, and financial modeling that enable day-to-day and strategic decisions. The ideal candidate is intellectually curious and an exceptional critical thinker; they can live in the data, understanding the logic and processes that generate it as well as detecting signals, diagnosing problems, proposing solutions, and predicting future behavior. They can then use their mastery to synthesize and convey important information to other parties and offer thoughtful ways in which things can be improved.
The Business Analytics Team has a wide remit at CarGurus. You'll work with many departments, gaining a broad exposure to the operation of the business, and be asked to connect the dots between them. Your rich understanding, technical skills, and thought partnership will make you a highly sought-after contributor for a wide variety of stakeholders, including senior leaders.
What you'll do
- With the assistance of AI tools, conduct exploratory data analysis across disparate data sources to understand the performance of the business and identify potential opportunities and/or risks.
- Be an active contributor in discussions with decision-makers, using cognitive empathy to understand their vantage point and incentives before using this understanding to structure and frame downstream work and resulting findings.
- Use data to identify, validate, and uncover causal relationships of important business mechanisms.
- Implement new metrics to evaluate business performance and/or experiments and build reports and dashboards to monitor and understand them.
- Be a voice and advocate to use data to improve the quality of our decision-making.
What you'll bring
- BS or BA in computer science, mathematics, statistics, analytics, or economics, with equivalent analytical work experience or a MS degree in a relevant field of study.
- 2+ years of professional experience focused on analysis and reporting, including the use of data visualization tools, to influence understanding and decision-making.
- Ability to understand systems and business goals to help modernize and innovate on present data structures and models.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, using hypothesis-driven analysis to solve questions and give guidance.
- Fluent in SQL and an analytical tool; experience with Git, Python, and LLMs is a plus.
- Some experience with data modeling and ETL concepts.
- Proficient at working with data ambiguity to derive meaningful insights.
- Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
- Able to manage multiple projects effectively, set expectations with partners, and complete projects on time.

Business Analyst Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business analyst in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts has no state-issued license or registration required for business analysts, so the path runs through education and credentials. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in business administration, information systems, or a related field. From there, earning a Certified Business Analysis Professional credential through the International Institute of Business Analysis, or a PMI-PBA through the Project Management Institute, meaningfully strengthens a Massachusetts application, particularly for roles in the state's large financial services and healthcare sectors.
Which companies hire business analysts in Massachusetts?
Employers hiring business analysts in Massachusetts right now include Whoop, State Street, and Arthur D. Little, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Massachusetts's concentration of insurance, asset management, and academic medical center organizations means steady, recurring demand rather than purely project-driven hiring cycles.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most business analyst jobs?
Boston, Andover, and Massachusetts have the most business analyst openings in Massachusetts. Boston dominates because of its density of financial institutions, teaching hospitals, and technology firms, while Cambridge draws heavy hiring from biotech and university-affiliated organizations, and Worcester's growing healthcare and insurance presence supports a consistent secondary market.
Are there remote business analyst jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, and more than most fields. Business analysis is fundamentally a desk-based, communication-driven role, which makes it well-suited to remote and hybrid arrangements. About 69% of business analyst openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how widely distributed teams have become in tech and financial services. Requirements definition, stakeholder interviews, and documentation work transfer readily to distributed environments.
How can I get hired as a business analyst in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a lateral move from a data-adjacent or operations role, such as financial analyst, project coordinator, or quality assurance associate, where you already work with requirements or process documentation. Large Massachusetts employers like Fidelity, Liberty Mutual, and academic medical centers such as Partners HealthCare affiliates run associate analyst and rotational programs for recent graduates. Building a portfolio of process maps or requirements documents and earning an entry-level IIBA certification gives candidates a concrete edge when competing for those programs.
Where can I find and apply to business analyst jobs in Massachusetts?
You can find and apply to business analyst jobs in Massachusetts on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings, find roles that match your experience and target industry, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
