Role Overview
CarGurus is seeking a Business Analytics Analyst to join the Business Analytics & Reporting team. This team is responsible for the analytical rigor behind reporting, forecasting, and financial modeling that enable day-to-day and strategic decisions. The ideal candidate is intellectually curious and an exceptional critical thinker; they can live in the data, understanding the logic and processes that generate it as well as detecting signals, diagnosing problems, proposing solutions, and predicting future behavior. They can then use their mastery to synthesize and convey important information to other parties and offer thoughtful ways in which things can be improved.
The Business Analytics Team has a wide remit at CarGurus. You'll work with many departments, gaining a broad exposure to the operation of the business, and be asked to connect the dots between them. Your rich understanding, technical skills, and thought partnership will make you a highly sought-after contributor for a wide variety of stakeholders, including senior leaders.
What you'll do
- With the assistance of AI tools, conduct exploratory data analysis across disparate data sources to understand the performance of the business and identify potential opportunities and/or risks.
- Be an active contributor in discussions with decision-makers, using cognitive empathy to understand their vantage point and incentives before using this understanding to structure and frame downstream work and resulting findings.
- Use data to identify, validate, and uncover causal relationships of important business mechanisms.
- Implement new metrics to evaluate business performance and/or experiments and build reports and dashboards to monitor and understand them.
- Be a voice and advocate to use data to improve the quality of our decision-making.
What you'll bring
- BS or BA in computer science, mathematics, statistics, analytics, or economics, with equivalent analytical work experience or a MS degree in a relevant field of study.
- 2+ years of professional experience focused on analysis and reporting, including the use of data visualization tools, to influence understanding and decision-making.
- Ability to understand systems and business goals to help modernize and innovate on present data structures and models.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, using hypothesis-driven analysis to solve questions and give guidance.
- Fluent in SQL and an analytical tool; experience with Git, Python, and LLMs is a plus.
- Some experience with data modeling and ETL concepts.
- Proficient at working with data ambiguity to derive meaningful insights.
- Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
- Able to manage multiple projects effectively, set expectations with partners, and complete projects on time.

Business Analyst Jobs in Boston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a business analyst job in Boston?
Target Boston's three strongest hiring sectors: financial services firms in the Financial District, health systems and life sciences companies anchored around Longwood and Kendall Square, and tech employers in the Seaport. Candidates who combine SQL or Tableau proficiency with domain knowledge in one of those sectors move faster. Agile and Scrum experience is a consistent differentiator in Boston interviews, particularly at mid-size tech and consulting firms.
Which companies hire business analysts in Boston?
Companies currently hiring business analysts in Boston include Whoop, Arthur D. Little, and CarGurus, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Boston's market skews toward large financial institutions, regional health systems, and a growing layer of venture-backed technology companies, all of which maintain ongoing business analyst pipelines.
Are there remote business analyst jobs in Boston?
Yes, business analyst roles are among the more remote-friendly positions given their focus on data work, stakeholder communication, and documentation rather than on-site operations. About 68% of business analyst openings tied to Boston are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting broader flexibility across the sector. Requirements gathering and sprint ceremonies are the portions most commonly handled in-person when a hybrid arrangement applies.
How can I get a business analyst job in Boston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Boston is targeting associate or junior business analyst roles at mid-size consulting firms that staff client projects across healthcare and financial services, since those firms hire for potential and train on methodology. Local healthcare networks and insurance companies also post data analyst or operations analyst titles that function as stepping stones. A portfolio showing process mapping, user story writing, or basic SQL queries built through coursework or a capstone project gives Boston hiring managers a concrete reason to move you forward.
Which industries hire the most business analysts in Boston?
Most business analyst openings in Boston sit in Investment & Asset Management, Consulting & Professional Services, and Insurance, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Boston's deep concentration of asset managers, regional banks, major academic medical centers, and life sciences firms creates sustained demand for analysts who can translate complex operational data into business decisions across all three sectors.
