Data Science Manager Jobs in Michigan: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data science manager in Michigan?
Most data science managers in Michigan enter the role through a combination of a bachelor's or master's degree in data science, statistics, or computer science and several years of hands-on analytical work before moving into leadership. There is no state-issued license required in Michigan for this role. Michigan employers typically expect candidates to have led projects or small teams before making the transition into a formal management title.
Which companies hire data science managers in Michigan?
Employers hiring data science managers in Michigan right now include Bosch, Forvia, and Meijer, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Michigan's concentration of automotive, healthcare, and fintech headquarters means that many of these employers are running large, permanent data science functions rather than project-based teams.
Which Michigan cities have the most data science manager jobs?
Ann Arbor, Detroit, and Auburn Hills have the most data science manager openings in Michigan. Detroit and its metro suburbs drive the largest share of listings, anchored by the automotive and mobility technology sector, while Ann Arbor's university research ecosystem and Grand Rapids' growing healthcare network generate consistent demand in their own right.
Are there remote data science manager jobs in Michigan?
Yes, and more than most fields, since data science manager work is inherently desk-based and collaborative through digital tools. About 0% of data science manager openings tied to Michigan are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the role's analytical and strategic nature. Strategy, modeling oversight, and team coaching tend to be the functions most commonly performed fully remotely.
How can I get hired as a data science manager in Michigan with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving from a senior data scientist or analytics lead role into a manager title, rather than applying to management positions directly from an early-career background. Large Michigan employers like Ford Motor Company and Michigan Medicine run structured rotational and development programs that prepare high-performing analysts for leadership. Building a portfolio that includes cross-functional project leadership, mentorship of junior analysts, and business impact documentation gives candidates from adjacent roles a concrete edge.
Where can I find and apply to data science manager jobs in Michigan?
