Data Science Manager Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data science manager in New York?
There is no state-issued license or registration required to work as a data science manager in New York. The typical path involves earning a bachelor's degree at minimum, often a master's, in a quantitative field, then building several years of hands-on data science experience before moving into team leadership. New York employers across finance, healthcare, and media consistently look for candidates who have led project delivery and mentored junior analysts before stepping into a formal management role.
Which companies hire data science managers in New York?
Employers hiring data science managers in New York right now include Capital One, Amazon, and Citi, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. New York's concentration of financial institutions, large hospital networks, and media companies means demand for this role stays steady across multiple industries throughout the year.
Which New York cities have the most data science manager jobs?
New York, Queens, and New City have the most data science manager openings in New York. New York City drives the overwhelming majority of listings due to its density of financial services firms, technology companies, and major healthcare systems, while cities like Albany attract openings tied to state government agencies and regional insurers that maintain analytics teams outside the main metro.
Are there remote data science manager jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 82% of data science manager openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how thoroughly the work relies on code, dashboards, and cloud platforms rather than physical presence. The parts of the role most likely to remain fully remote are individual contributor oversight, model review, and cross-functional stakeholder meetings conducted over video.
How can I get hired as a data science manager in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into management from a strong individual contributor record rather than applying to manager roles cold. New York employers in finance and healthcare, including large hospital systems and investment banks, regularly recruit analysts and senior data scientists into associate manager or team lead roles to grow internal talent. Building a portfolio of end-to-end projects and taking on informal mentorship or project coordination within a current role signals readiness to hiring managers looking for their next manager from within.
Where can I find and apply to data science manager jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to data science manager jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Find roles that fit your experience and apply directly to the ones that match.
