Entry Level Data Scientist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level data scientist job?
Entry level data scientist employers look for hands-on evidence of skill over a long work history. A portfolio of projects built in Python or R, familiarity with SQL and basic machine learning libraries, and at least one internship or capstone project can give you a real edge. Tailoring your application to each job description and highlighting what you built and why it mattered helps your resume stand out at this stage.
Which companies hire entry level data scientists?
Companies hiring entry level data scientists right now include Capital One, Walmart, and Information Technology Senior Management Forum, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a broad range of employers, including fast-growing startups building out analytics teams for the first time and established organizations looking to expand junior data science capacity.
Are there remote entry level data scientist jobs?
Yes, though availability varies by employer and industry. About 25% of entry level data scientist openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, so a meaningful share of roles offer flexibility even for candidates just starting out. Filtering by work setting on Migrate Mate lets you see which specific openings match the arrangement you're looking for.
Are these new grad data scientist jobs?
Yes, these listings include new grad, recent graduate, and junior data scientist roles alongside other entry level openings. A posting is generally new-grad friendly when it explicitly welcomes zero to two years of experience, accepts internship or academic project work in place of full-time history, or asks for a portfolio rather than a proven work record. Look for those signals in the job description to quickly assess fit.
Which industries hire the most entry level data scientists?
Entry level data scientist roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Retail, and Banking & Financial Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Those sectors tend to drive hiring at this level because they generate large volumes of structured and unstructured data and need junior analysts and scientists to help turn it into actionable insight.
