Data Scientist Jobs in Seattle: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a data scientist job in Seattle?
Your strongest path into Seattle's data science market runs through its dominant tech and cloud sector, where companies in South Lake Union, Bellevue, and Redmond hire in volume for roles ranging from analytics engineering to applied machine learning. Candidates who demonstrate hands-on experience with large-scale data infrastructure, cloud platforms, and product analytics stand out locally. Targeting mission-driven healthcare and life sciences organizations in the First Hill and South Lake Union corridors is also a practical entry point.
Which companies hire data scientists in Seattle?
Companies currently hiring data scientists in Seattle include Amazon, TikTok, and Starbucks, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Seattle's employer mix is unusually deep, anchored by global tech headquarters alongside a strong cluster of healthcare systems, fintech firms, and retail-tech companies that maintain large data teams locally.
Are there remote data scientist jobs in Seattle?
Yes, data science is one of the more remote-friendly analytical roles since most of the work happens on a laptop rather than on-site. About 51% of data scientist openings tied to Seattle are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how broadly Seattle's tech employers adopted flexible arrangements. Fully remote openings tend to concentrate in product analytics and machine learning engineering, while roles that involve close collaboration with hardware or clinical teams are more likely to require in-office presence.
How can I get a data scientist job in Seattle with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Seattle is landing an analytics, business intelligence, or data analyst role at one of the city's mid-size tech or retail-tech companies, then building toward a data scientist title internally. University of Washington and Seattle University produce strong local pipelines, so recent graduates competing for junior roles should emphasize capstone projects and any internship work with Seattle-area employers. Healthcare systems like UW Medicine and Providence also hire entry-level data professionals in clinical analytics, offering a well-defined promotion path.
Which industries hire the most data scientists in Seattle?
The sectors hiring the most data scientists in Seattle are Technology & Software, Retail, and E-Commerce & Online Marketplaces, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Seattle's concentration of cloud platform companies, major e-commerce operations, and a nationally significant health sciences cluster means demand across those sectors is structural rather than cyclical, sustaining consistent hiring even when national tech markets slow.
