The Senior Database Architect supports the implementation and ongoing enforcement of SOC 2 controls at the database layer, including access management, audit logging, change management, and evidence collection for control testing during audit observation periods. This position also helps maintain URAC accreditation requirements by ensuring database backup, disaster recovery, and data retention practices align with accreditation standards, and by supporting audit readiness through documented procedures and demonstrable recovery capabilities.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Perform SQL Server Database Administration (DBA) duties including database maintenance, performance tuning, backup/recovery management, security administration, and capacity planning using SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).
- Administer and optimize SQL Server databases including index management, query performance tuning, execution plan analysis, and stored procedure optimization. Manage SSRS report server and improve reliability of reporting.
- Collaborate with analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Implement and monitor data quality checks, ensuring data accuracy, completeness, and consistency across systems.
- Troubleshoot data-related issues, perform root cause analysis (RCA), and implement fixes to ensure data pipeline reliability and performance.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of technical documentation, including data dictionaries, data flow diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
- Develop and execute data sanitization and masking procedures to prepare production data for use in downstream test and development environments, ensuring compliance with data privacy regulations while maintaining data utility for testing purposes.
- Ensure adherence to data governance policies and maintain strict compliance with data security and privacy regulations, particularly HIPAA and ePHI standards within a healthcare context.
- Participate in an on-call rotation schedule for critical data infrastructure support as needed.
- Support incident management processes for data-related events.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Proven experience as a Data Engineer, SQL Server DBA, Database Developer, or similar role with hands-on database administration responsibilities.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and hands-on experience with SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) for database administration, particularly Microsoft SQL Server and Postgres.
- Understanding of data warehousing concepts, data modeling techniques (star schema, snowflake schema).
- Strong report building and development experience with BI and visualization tools; Tableau experience is highly desirable, and SSRS experience is valuable for the migration process.
- Proficiency in Python and SQL
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
