JOB SUMMARY: The Dentist provides high-quality, compassionate, patient-centered oral health services to underserved and diverse populations in a community health setting. This role is responsible for diagnosing and treating dental conditions, promoting preventive care, and supporting the FQHC's mission to improve access to comprehensive, affordable healthcare.
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Chief Medical Officer
JOB DUTIES:
Perform comprehensive dental evaluations, diagnoses, treatment planning, and documentation in the EMR.
1. Creating treatment plans to maintain or restore the oral health of their patients.
2. Perform dental treatments within our scope of service and in accordance with company guidelines.
3. Interpreting x-rays and diagnostic tests.
4. Ensure the safe administration of anesthetics.
5. Prescribe medications as necessary.
6. Responsible for personal compliance in full with all applicable federal, state, local, and center rules, regulations, protocols, and procedures, including workplace safety, public health, and confidentiality.
7. Deliver patient education on oral hygiene, caries prevention, and overall wellness.
8. Collaborate with dental assistants, hygienists, and medical providers to ensure integrated patient care.
9. Provide supervision and guidance to dental support staff and/or students/residents.
10. Document all encounters accurately and in a timely manner, in accordance with clinic policy.
11. Participate in outreach, health fairs, or mobile clinic events as needed.
12. Maintain active knowledge of best practices, guidelines, and innovations in community-based dentistry.
Special Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Attributes:
- Commitment to serving underserved and diverse communities.
- Strong communication, cultural humility, and team collaboration skills.
- Comfortable working in a productivity-based, mission-driven environment.
- Proficiency in electronic dental/medical record systems.
- Demonstrated proficiency in various PC applications, including E-mail, Microsoft Excel, and Word
- Required to know, follow, and enforce safe work practices, and be aware of company policies and procedures related to job safety, including safety rules and regulations.
- Reliable transportation, automobile insurance, and a current CA Driver's License.
Education and Experience Requirements
- DDS or DMD degree from an accredited dental school.
- Current, unrestricted State Dental License.
- DEA, CPR/BLS certification required (PALS optional depending on site).
- 1–2 years of experience in community health, public health dentistry, or similar setting preferred (new graduates with a strong desire to serve underserved populations encouraged to apply).
- Bilingual skills are a plus.
