Entry Level Design Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level design engineer job?
Entry level design engineer roles go to candidates who show practical output, not just coursework. A portfolio with CAD models, prototype photos, or school project documentation gives hiring managers something concrete to evaluate. Internship experience, even a single semester, signals real workplace exposure. Employers at this level prioritize candidates who can demonstrate problem-solving process and are comfortable learning new tools on the job.
Which companies hire entry level design engineers?
Companies hiring entry level design engineers right now include Apple, Arhaus, and Quanta Infrastructure Solutions, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a wide range of employers, including large manufacturers, product development firms, defense contractors, and startups building physical or electromechanical products.
Are there remote entry level design engineer jobs?
Yes, though most design engineering roles at the entry level are on-site or hybrid given the hands-on nature of the work. About 11% of entry level design engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, so candidates open to any location will find more options than those searching within a single city.
Are these new grad design engineer jobs?
Yes. These listings include new grad, recent graduate, and junior design engineer roles. A posting is new-grad friendly when it welcomes zero to two years of experience, accepts internship work or academic projects in place of full-time history, or explicitly invites recent graduates to apply. Candidates who are ABD on a degree or just finished a relevant co-op often qualify for new grad postings as well.
Which industries hire the most entry level design engineers?
Entry Level design engineer roles concentrate in Electronics & Hardware, Consulting & Professional Services, and Technology & Software, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive entry level hiring because they have continuous product development cycles and structured onboarding programs built to bring junior engineers up to speed quickly.
