ABOUT THE ROLE
The French Refinery creates high-end custom cabinetry with a disciplined, systemized approach to production. We are seeking a Senior Cabinet Engineer / Technical Design Manager to own the technical path from design intent to buildable, CNC-ready cabinetry and clear shop and installation documentation.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role for someone who understands how cabinetry and architectural millwork are actually machined, assembled, finished, and installed. You will resolve construction details, establish reliable production information, and take ownership of technical release so our shop and installation teams can execute confidently.
Our core business is high-end custom cabinetry built on repeatable construction methods. Your job is to strengthen that foundation, preserve design intent, and handle selected custom details with sound judgment about cost, complexity, and production efficiency.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
- Translate architectural drawings, approved designs, field dimensions, and specifications into complete, manufacturable cabinetry packages.
- Resolve constructability before production: joinery, material thicknesses, hardware, clearances, tolerances, appliance integration, fillers, scribes, fastening, and assembly sequence.
- Develop and review Mozaik cabinet models and production information for CNC readiness, including machining logic, tooling constraints, material assignments, and consistency between drawings and manufacturing outputs.
- Produce and review shop drawings, sections, elevations, construction details, bills of materials, and assembly notes.
- Provide installer notes that clearly communicate site conditions, attachment requirements, access, sequencing, and critical dimensions.
- Own technical review and release to production, confirming that outstanding questions are resolved and revisions are coordinated before work reaches the shop.
- Partner with design, project coordination, production, and installation to identify technical risks early and resolve questions through clear decisions and documentation.
- Evaluate selected architectural millwork details for fit with our production capabilities; propose practical alternatives when a detail adds unnecessary complexity.
- Build and maintain reusable cabinet libraries, standard details, hardware conventions, drawing templates, and release checklists.
- Incorporate shop and field feedback into standards that reduce rework and prevent recurring problems.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Substantial hands-on experience engineering high-end custom cabinetry and architectural millwork for an operating production shop.
- Strong understanding of cabinet construction, joinery, sheet goods, solid wood movement, hardware, machining, assembly, and installation.
- Ability to independently turn design intent into complete technical solutions and explain those solutions clearly to shop and field teams.
- Proficiency with Mozaik, or strong experience with comparable cabinet engineering and CNC production software and the ability to become proficient in Mozaik.
- Experience preparing accurate shop drawings and coordinating revisions, dimensions, material specifications, and production outputs.
- Practical judgment about when to use a proven standard, when a custom detail is justified, and when to raise a scope or constructability concern before commitments are made.
- Organized follow-through and a willingness to take responsibility for the completeness and accuracy of released work.
Shop-floor, CNC, cabinetmaking, or installation experience is especially valuable. We welcome candidates whose technical expertise was developed through direct industry experience.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
The shop receives complete, consistent information. Installers understand the intended construction and sequence. Technical questions are resolved before they become production delays. Our standard libraries improve over time, and custom details are managed without sacrificing the efficiency of our core cabinetry systems.

Design Manager Jobs in Tampa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a design manager job in Tampa?
Target Tampa's strongest hiring sectors: healthcare technology, financial services, and consumer-facing brands with regional headquarters in Westshore and Downtown. Employers in Tampa tend to favor candidates who can manage cross-functional design teams and translate brand strategy into product or marketing execution. A portfolio showing end-to-end project ownership, combined with local networking through AIGA Tampa Bay, gives candidates a measurable edge in this market.
Which companies hire design managers in Tampa?
Companies currently hiring design managers in Tampa include AECOM, Arcadis, and CRB, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Tampa's mix of regional bank headquarters, health system campuses, and mid-size tech firms creates steady demand for both in-house brand and product design leadership.
Are there remote design manager jobs in Tampa?

About 56% of design manager openings tied to Tampa are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with remote options most common at software and fintech employers headquartered in Tampa's Westshore and Channelside districts.
How can I get a design manager job in Tampa with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Tampa is moving into a design manager role from a senior individual-contributor position at a local agency, health system, or mid-size tech company.
