CAD Designer Jobs in Florida: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a cad designer in Florida?
The most direct path is completing an associate degree or technical certificate in drafting, CAD technology, or engineering design from a Florida community college such as Valencia College or Miami Dade College. Florida does not require a state license specifically for cad designers, but employers typically expect proficiency in AutoCAD or Revit and a portfolio of project drawings. Earning a Certified Drafter credential from the American Design Drafting Association strengthens your candidacy considerably in the Florida market.
How much do CAD designers make in Florida?
CAD designers in Florida earn a median of about $68,050 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $45,760 for the lowest 10% to over $100,400 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire cad designers in Florida?
Employers hiring cad designers in Florida right now include Atwell, MCKIM & CREED, and CPH, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Florida's aerospace corridor around Orlando and the Space Coast, along with large civil infrastructure projects statewide, means defense contractors, engineering consultancies, and construction firms are among the most consistent sources of openings.
Which Florida cities have the most cad designer jobs?
Orlando, Tampa, and Fort Myers have the most cad designer openings in Florida. Orlando leads because of its aerospace, defense, and theme park infrastructure industries, while Tampa's concentration of engineering consultancies and construction firms drives strong demand there, and Miami's ongoing commercial and residential development keeps civil and architectural CAD roles in regular supply.
Are there remote cad designer jobs in Florida?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely analytical fields because cad design often requires coordination with on-site teams and access to project files managed locally. About 23% of cad designer openings tied to Florida are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with remote options most frequently found in mechanical product design and BIM coordination roles where deliverables are fully digital.
How can I get hired as a cad designer in Florida with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to junior drafter or CAD technician roles at Florida engineering consultancies and architecture firms, which regularly hire candidates from community college drafting programs. Firms like Kimley-Horn and large Florida construction companies often bring on entry-level designers who demonstrate strong AutoCAD or Revit skills through a portfolio built during coursework. Completing an internship through a Florida community college cooperative education program and earning a Certified Drafter credential gives candidates a clear edge over those with no credentials.
Where can I find and apply to cad designer jobs in Florida?
