CAD Designer Jobs in Arizona: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a cad designer in Arizona?
Most Arizona employers require at minimum an associate degree in drafting and design technology, computer-aided design, or a closely related engineering field, with a bachelor's degree preferred for senior positions. Arizona does not issue a state-specific CAD designer license, but professional certification through the American Design Drafting Association is widely recognized by Arizona employers and strengthens a candidate's profile considerably. Completing a drafting program at an Arizona community college such as Mesa Community College or Chandler-Gilbert Community College is a common and practical starting point.
How much do CAD designers make in Arizona?
CAD designers in Arizona earn a median of about $67,410 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $46,360 for the lowest 10% to over $104,870 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire cad designers in Arizona?
Employers hiring cad designers in Arizona right now include ADC, NV5, and KALCON, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Arizona's concentration of aerospace, defense, and semiconductor manufacturers means many of these employers are looking for candidates with experience in mechanical or electrical CAD environments specifically.
Which Arizona cities have the most cad designer jobs?
Phoenix, Tucson, and Mesa account for the largest share of cad designer openings in Arizona. The Phoenix metro drives the majority of demand, anchored by its dense cluster of aerospace and defense contractors, civil engineering firms, and chip fabrication facilities in Chandler and Tempe, while Tucson's openings are largely tied to defense manufacturing and the University of Arizona's research operations.
Are there remote cad designer jobs in Arizona?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely analytical fields, since many cad designer roles require close coordination with on-site engineers or physical prototypes. About 33% of cad designer openings tied to Arizona are remote or hybrid as of November 2026, reflecting the role's partly hands-on nature. Civil and architectural drafting work tends to offer the most remote flexibility, while aerospace and manufacturing design roles more often require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a cad designer in Arizona with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing an associate degree in drafting technology at an Arizona community college and applying directly to manufacturing or engineering firms that hire recent graduates for junior drafter or design technician roles. Large Arizona employers in the aerospace sector often bring on entry-level candidates who hold an associate degree and a working portfolio of AutoCAD or SolidWorks drawings. Building a strong project portfolio through coursework or personal projects and obtaining an American Design Drafting Association certification as a Drafter can meaningfully close the experience gap for Arizona applicants.
Where can I find and apply to cad designer jobs in Arizona?
