Development Engineer Jobs in Charlotte: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a development engineer job in Charlotte?
Focus your search on Charlotte's energy and utility companies in Uptown, automotive suppliers and manufacturers in the Lake Norman and Mooresville corridors, and the growing defense and aerospace contractors in the University City area. Candidates with hands-on prototype development experience, familiarity with CAD tools, and exposure to regulated industries stand out most in this market. Networking through local engineering societies and Charlotte-area manufacturing trade events also opens doors that job boards alone won't.
Which companies hire development engineers in Charlotte?
Companies currently hiring development engineers in Charlotte include Barrday, Palmetto, and Sealed Air, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Charlotte's employer mix skews toward large utilities, tier-one automotive suppliers, and defense contractors with significant R&D operations in the region.
Are there remote development engineer jobs in Charlotte?
Yes, though remote availability is limited for development engineers since most roles involve lab work, prototyping, or on-site collaboration with manufacturing teams. About 0% of development engineer openings tied to Charlotte are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those tend to be the more analytical or documentation-heavy phases of the role. Testing, validation, and hands-on build work almost always require an in-person presence.
How can I get a development engineer job in Charlotte with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Charlotte is a co-op or internship with one of the region's large manufacturers or utilities, which regularly take on students and recent graduates for structured engineering rotations. Targeting associate or junior engineer roles at automotive suppliers in the Mooresville corridor or at the University Research Park tech employers gives you a foot in the door locally. A portfolio of capstone or personal projects demonstrating CAD, testing, or process improvement work meaningfully offsets limited professional experience.
Which industries hire the most development engineers in Charlotte?
The sectors hiring the most development engineers in Charlotte are Manufacturing, Construction & Real Estate, and Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Charlotte's position as a regional hub for energy infrastructure, automotive parts manufacturing, and expanding defense contracting drives consistent local demand for development engineers across the product lifecycle.
