Entry Level DevOps Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level devops engineer job?
Employers hiring at this level look for hands-on fluency with at least one cloud platform, a CI/CD tool like Jenkins or GitHub Actions, and containerization basics in Docker or Kubernetes. A public GitHub repository with real pipeline or infrastructure-as-code projects gives you a concrete edge. Internship experience, open-source contributions, or a capstone project from a bootcamp or degree program all count as relevant work at this stage.
Which companies hire entry level devops engineers?
Companies hiring entry level devops engineers right now include Booz Allen Hamilton, Northrop Grumman, and Leidos, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a wide range of employers, including technology firms, cloud-native startups, financial services companies, and large enterprises building out their internal platform and site reliability teams.
Are there remote entry level devops engineer jobs?
Yes, and a meaningful share of openings are fully remote or hybrid. About 19% of entry level devops engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, making this one of the more flexible roles for candidates who want to work outside major tech hubs or relocate gradually after landing their first position.
Are these new grad devops engineer jobs?
Yes, this page includes new grad, recent graduate, and junior devops engineer roles alongside other entry level postings. A new grad friendly posting typically welcomes candidates with zero to two years of experience, accepts internships or academic projects in place of full-time history, or explicitly invites a portfolio submission. If a listing mentions degree-level experience only or asks for a capstone or side project, it is suited for new grads.
Which industries hire the most entry level devops engineers?
Entry Level devops engineer roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Consulting & Professional Services, and Banking & Financial Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Those sectors drive hiring at this level because they run large-scale cloud infrastructure, continuous deployment pipelines, and distributed systems that require dedicated DevOps support even from candidates early in their careers.
