DevOps Engineer Jobs in Chicago: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a devops engineer job in Chicago?
Focus your search on the Loop and Fulton Market, where financial services firms, cloud-native software companies, and healthtech employers concentrate their engineering teams. Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines carries the most weight in Chicago's market. Candidates who can demonstrate ownership of infrastructure migrations or cloud cost optimization tend to stand out, since those are the problems Chicago employers are actively trying to solve.
Which companies hire devops engineers in Chicago?
Companies currently hiring devops engineers in Chicago include Google, Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago, and REPLY, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. The Chicago market is especially active among fintech firms, large insurance carriers, and enterprise SaaS companies with Midwest headquarters.
Are there remote devops engineer jobs in Chicago?
Yes, though fully remote roles are more common for cloud infrastructure and automation work than for positions requiring hands-on data center or hardware access. About 35% of devops engineer openings tied to Chicago are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how distributed engineering teams have become across the sector. Cloud platform engineering and pipeline automation roles tend to be the most remote-friendly in the Chicago market.
How can I get a devops engineer job in Chicago with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Chicago is through a junior site reliability or systems administrator role at a mid-size SaaS or fintech company, where you can build infrastructure skills alongside a senior team. Chicago's large healthcare systems and financial institutions also hire entry-level platform engineers and DevOps associates. A public portfolio on GitHub showing automation scripts, containerized apps, or cloud deployments makes a strong impression with Chicago hiring managers evaluating candidates without a long work history.
Which industries hire the most devops engineers in Chicago?
Chicago devops engineer roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Artificial Intelligence, and Investment & Asset Management, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Chicago's dense fintech ecosystem, major insurance carriers headquartered in the metro, and a growing healthtech corridor along the Near North Side all create consistent demand for infrastructure and automation engineers.
