DevOps Engineer Jobs in Mississippi: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a devops engineer in Mississippi?
Most devops engineer roles in Mississippi require a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a closely related field, though employers increasingly accept equivalent experience. Mississippi does not issue a state license for devops engineers, so the path runs through technical credentials: AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, HashiCorp Terraform Associate, and CKA for Kubernetes are widely recognized. Candidates without a degree often build into the role from systems administration or software development positions at Mississippi-based defense contractors or managed service providers.
Which companies hire devops engineers in Mississippi?
Companies currently hiring devops engineers in Mississippi include CVS Health, FMOL Health, and Pine Belt Honda, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Mississippi's defense and government IT sector, anchored along the Gulf Coast and in the Jackson metro, drives a large share of these openings alongside regional financial institutions and healthcare systems.
Which Mississippi cities have the most devops engineer jobs?
Jackson, Mississippi, and Flowood lead Mississippi for devops engineer openings. Jackson dominates as the state capital and home to most of Mississippi's large financial institutions, state agency IT departments, and corporate headquarters, while the Biloxi-Gulfport area generates consistent demand through defense contractors and federal installations tied to Keesler Air Force Base.
Are there remote devops engineer jobs in Mississippi?
Yes, and more than most fields, since devops work is infrastructure- and code-focused rather than physically hands-on. About 48% of devops engineer openings tied to Mississippi are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the role's natural fit with distributed teams. Cloud operations, pipeline management, and monitoring responsibilities are the parts of the job most commonly performed fully remote.
How can I get hired as a devops engineer in Mississippi with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior systems administrator or IT operations role at a Mississippi managed service provider or regional bank, then a lateral move once you have hands-on automation experience. C Spire and state agency IT divisions in Jackson occasionally post associate infrastructure roles that accept candidates with a relevant degree and a cloud certification in place of work history. Building a public portfolio on GitHub demonstrating Terraform scripts or a working CI/CD pipeline from a personal project consistently gives Mississippi candidates an edge over those relying on credentials alone.
Where can I find and apply to devops engineer jobs in Mississippi?
You can find and apply to devops engineer jobs in Mississippi on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings, find the roles that match your experience and location preference, and apply directly to whichever ones fit.
