DevOps Engineer Jobs in Maryland: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a devops engineer in Maryland?
DevOps engineering in Maryland has no state-issued license, so the path runs through education and credentials recognized by Maryland's dominant employers. Most roles require a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field, combined with certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Certified Kubernetes Administrator, or HashiCorp Terraform Associate. Because much of Maryland's hiring is tied to federal contracting, obtaining or being eligible for a security clearance is a practical requirement for a large share of openings.
Which companies hire devops engineers in Maryland?
Maryland devops engineer roles are posted by Leidos, Power3 Solutions, and Shield Consulting Solutions and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Maryland's federal contracting and defense technology sector means large systems integrators and intelligence community suppliers consistently represent some of the highest-volume hirers in the state.
Which Maryland cities have the most devops engineer jobs?
Annapolis Junction, Bethesda, and Columbia account for the most devops engineer openings in Maryland. Baltimore drives volume through its concentration of healthcare IT, financial technology, and university research institutions, while the Montgomery County and Prince George's County suburbs reflect the dense federal contracting and cybersecurity industry corridor that runs toward the Washington metro, pulling substantial hiring into those surrounding communities.
Are there remote devops engineer jobs in Maryland?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 65% of devops engineer openings tied to Maryland are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how naturally cloud infrastructure and automation work lends itself to distributed teams. The most fully remote roles tend to center on cloud platform management and pipeline development, while positions requiring hands-on lab access or classified network work typically mandate on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a devops engineer in Maryland with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior systems administrator or cloud support role, which many Maryland federal contractors and healthcare IT firms use as a feeder track into devops teams. Employers like Leidos and Northrop Grumman run associate and early-career programs that onboard candidates from adjacent roles such as network operations, help desk, or systems analyst positions. Building a public GitHub portfolio demonstrating CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code projects, paired with an entry-level AWS or Azure certification, gives candidates without a formal devops title a concrete edge in Maryland screening processes.
Where can I find and apply to devops engineer jobs in Maryland?
You can find and apply to devops engineer jobs in Maryland on Migrate Mate, which lists current Maryland openings. Find roles that match your experience and location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
